A pedal intended for electric guitars and basses, the Q-Box from Hotone is an envelope filter with three distinct ways of working, all selectable via toggle switch. There are two touch-sensitive wah modes, one that utilizes a high-pass filter, and another that instantiates a low-pass filter. Should you use the touch-wah settings, the sensitivity of your playing will dictate when the filter begins to open. The third mode—auto-wah—is not touch-sensitive; instead, its low-pass filter is constantly on the move.
The pedal utilizes three knobs to further manipulate its filters. A range knob controls the filter's center frequency, while a Q knob controls its sharpness. The large, transparent knob on the top has a couple of different functions depending on the mode you've selected. In touch-wah modes, this knob controls the sensitivity of the filter, basically setting a threshold for touch, beyond which the wah begins to take effect. In auto-wah mode, this knob controls the speed of the effect in general.
The pedal has a center frequency range of 300 Hz to approximately 1.9 kHz, and its footswitch is true bypass. Two of its knobs are noctilucent, meaning that they absorb light and will then glow in the dark so you can see the controls on a dark stage.
