This lens is excellent! I use it every day for landscapes and dayily photos. Very good like tank build quality. Very good, accurate and fast autofocus with X1DII.Manual focus is precise and very smooth. Optical this lens is sharp and gives nice creamy bokeh. Distortion is minimal. This lens has a very safe for all kind of weather.I would recommend this sharp Hasselblad optic to all landscape lovers! I add some of my photos taken with Hasselblad X1DII and XCD 45F3.5 in Iceland in August 2022

Over all the lens is nice. It's fairly small, and pretty lightweight. The sharpness is exactly what the others are saying. But to be honest, it can look too sharp, like bad Photoshop sharp. My main issue with this lens is the chromatic aberrations. It's an absolutely horrible problem with this lens, especially in the high contrast areas of the photos. Originally I thought the first lens I received was just a bad copy, so I sent it back for an exchange. The second lens is just as bad. I've tried to fix it with Camera Raw or Phocus, but those didn't do much of anything to correct the problem. I don't mind the slower auto-focusing issues. Most medium format isn't fast so this is to be expected. Auto focus isn't perfect and you're better off doing it manually.

Super sharp lens, wonderfully built. I'm using the lens for landscapes and am loving it, along with the 90mm. Would have loved for Hasselblad to offer their lenses w/out shutter for half the cost. I'm finding both 45mm and 90mm shutter mechanisms to not be accurate once the exposure is more than a couple seconds, with the lens shutter producing totally different results over the E shutter with exactly same exposure settings. Maybe that's the nature of the lens shutters, but that is silly for the price. Still giving it 5 stars because the image quality is stunning.
Concerned about critical focus

This lens is focus by wire. The motor that moves the lens element has steps, and I'm concerned the steps are too far apart for close subjects wide open. I must grant the Hasselblad product integration guys: so far, they're perfect. One motor-step is in focus and, at minimum focus wide open, the neighbouring steps on either side aren't. What if the rumoured X series body based on the 100MP Sony sensor comes out? Will I still be able to focus this lens, perhaps with a firmware upgrade, or is the motor's angular cadence a hardware limitation (as it is with most steppers)? I'm especially concerned because I mostly take boring unposed photos of friends and family in social settings. The view angle is right for this, but minimum focus is about the size of a person's social bubble, and indoors at night implies wide-open. That means I'll mostly be using this lens where the DoF is shallowest, so this hypothetical future problem would affect most of my photos. Other than that, it's nice. I might've preferred a lens of twice the weight and cost that produces the same image quality a stop brighter, but maybe not because, as offered, it seems on the edge of what people find off-putting, like it could conceivably be a $200 kit zoom and no-big-deal. Ability to pass for a boring camera is probably more relevant to the images produced than performance stats. I don't yet have enough experience to know how normies react to it, so I'm guessing about that.

So, this was the first XCD lens that I owned. Optically, it's great. The focus ring is smooth and aperture is snappy. But when I got my 90mm and 30mm lenses, I quickly noticed how much sturdier and better made they both seem. Something about the 45mm is just not as well made as the other lenses in the line. It's still a good lens, but if you can only buy one, I'd go with one of the others.

Very good and fast autofocus with X1DII.Manual focus is precise and very smooth. Optical this lens is sharp and gives nice creamy bokeh. Distortion is minimal and dose not really need correction like XCD 45F4 .I had XCD 45p F4, but decide to sale it and get XCD 45F3.5.And it was not a mistake! I really enjoy XCD 45 F3.5! And i also understand why this lens cost much more than F4. The difference is huge. This lens is PROFESSONAL! The lens is worth every invested cent! Now i can enjoy photography with Hasselblad X1DII and XCD 45F3.5!
