Hasselblad XCD 90mm f/3.2 Reviews

90mm Hasselblad Bargain

As you may have noticed, Hasselblad lenses are not inexpensive. They are, however, of the highest quality optically, mechanically, in design and construction. Hasselblad has recently introduced a new 90mm XCD lens, an f/2.5 one, and I would expect it to be at least as fine a lens as this earlier f/3.2 model. In addition to being about 2/3 of a stop faster, it's also slightly lighter (551g vs. 619g) and a tiny bit shorter (95mm vs. 100mm). On the other hand, when it becomes available, it will cost $4,300, whereas the existing f/3.2 lens is priced much less expensively at $3,200. I don't know how long Hasselblad intends to keep two 90mm lenses in its lineup, but while it does, this f/3.2 model at a $1,100 savings constitutes a great bargain.

the perfect lens

Every thing about this lens is what I look for in a lens. The color produced is fantastic. For a non sports camera lens it focuses quickly and accurately and the 90mm focal length is just right for the kind of stuff most people shoot- portraits, oddities, events.

Perfect street camera-

Just owned the new lens for two weeks-used it for capturing the life of of high school soccer players- it got me on the field and was able to follow play with a little cropping- the magnificent color held up as well detailes in the image at 3000 ISZO., F 5.6 shutter speed 500 of a second. Worked the streets in Delray Beach Florida on a family Sunday-Just great at f3.2---scary sharp. Tried the the 80mm- to heavy and big for me to walk around slapped on X1D11. for street photography. Wonderful wonderful lens-but needs a tripod. the backgrounds melted equally well with both lens. Jack, Jack Klein former news photographer for the Miami Herald.

First Class

The lens is light on the body of the camera making it easy to use on the street- the lens is more then fast enough at f3.2 to make images with the camera making clean images with the ISO 12,000 under the most difficult lighting conditions. On portred images the back ground fades into a beautiful softness.

Fast focussing and sharp images with this lens on the Hasselblad X1D II 50c. Nice bokeh for headshots and portraits.

Stunning Image Quality

I've been using this lens on my 907x. Absolutely stunning image quality with excellent build quality. AF speed is OK, but none of the XCD lenses are lightning fast. Wish it had a bit wider aperture, but leaf shutters impose their own limitations. Overall, excellent optic for any XCD system. Very pleased.

XCD 90 Lens Firmware

By Jack

I just received my new 90mm lens and noticed that focus bracketing was not working , but did function correctly on other lenses. The firmware on the lens I received was 0.5.23. The latest firmware is 0.6.0 as on other lenses where focus bracketing works correctly. Updating the firmware to 0.6.0 solved the problem. The B&H website suggest 0.5.40 and should be updated to 0.6.)
