Track your hunting dog as far as 9 miles away with the Astro 430 GPS Dog Tracking System with T 5 Collar Device from Garmin. The GPS/GLONASS receiving collar works with a handheld tracker featuring a full suite of topo maps, satellite imagery, and data sharing and recording capabilities.
The T 5 collar features LED beacon lights visible out to 100 yards, for low-light and night use, and is powered by an included rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The Astro 430 handheld features a 2.5 second update rate, so you'll always know where your dog is, and comes pre-loaded with TOPO U.S. 100K mapping package and a one-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery.
A microSD slot makes it possible to add more mapping packages. You can view maps and satellite imagery on BaseCamp, the included trip-planning software with many uses for outdoors enthusiasts. You can share the position of your dogs during the hunt with a number of other Garmin devices, such as the DriveTrack 70 GPS navigator. And you can record metrics of your hunts - dogs' times, distances traveled, overall scores, number of times when an "on point" or "treed" event was indicated - for more effective training. There's even a special waypoint feature called the Covey Counter that shows the exact location, time of day and elevation where you found your prey as well as the number of birds you flushed and took from that location. You can also set waypoints to find your way back to your camp or vehicle. The Astro 430 handheld unit is water-resistant to IPX7, suitable for use in rain or snow. It runs on 2 AA alkaline batteries or Garmin's separately-sold NiMH battery pack.
