Platypod Pro Max Overview

The Platypod Pro Max Camera Support is a wide, stable, and ultra low-profile platform that allows you to set up a large tripod head, camera, and lens on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.

Measuring 5.3 x 7.8" and only 0.2" thick, the Pro Max Camera Support allows you to photograph or record with a camera that is elevated only slightly higher than the tripod head it is used with. Four reversible, spiked feet that each feature rubber tips on one end can be distributed among five strategically placed, 1/4"-20 threaded holes. Once installed, they can be adjusted to level the platform on uneven surfaces, both indoors and out. For placement on unconventional surfaces and angles, two 2" belt slots allow the Pro Max Camera Support to be secured to a cylindrical object or to be taped onto angled floors. Two nail holes are included for permanent or semi-permanent mounting to walls, boards or ceilings; and for quick placement and removal from conventional tripods or quick release devices, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes are on the underside of the platform.

When the spike feet and their locking nuts are not in use, a magnetized storage box holds them against the top of the Platypod Pro Max Camera Support. Able to hold up to 300 lb, the Platypod Pro Max Camera Support accepts tripod heads with 3/8"-16 mounts, and is constructed from anodized, aluminum-alloy for durability and corrosion resistance.

Platypod Pro Max Reviews

Great camera support

Excellent option for camera support in low light situations in locations where a monopod or tripod cannot be used. Use with Velcro strap for easy attach and release on any shaped pole, railing or tree.

Monster Stability in a Compact Multi-Functional Device

Yes, I bought both sizes of this device after having used one on a recent shoot. Loved everything about it including the feet options, strapping slots and the multitude of threaded screw points for various add-ons. The stability of the larger Platypod is really impressive while the quality of the build itself is stellar. High quality aircraft aluminum (at least it seems that way) keeps it lightweight and portable enough for most any trip. I use it now with my beanbag and strap it down with incredible results. Platypod did it again with this one. My only wish is that Platypod would make a rugged pouch that can attach via MOLLE or Velcro to the outside of my backpack for easy access.

Great low angle shots

Very cool to use with a wide angle lens. Especially if you have a flip up LCD screen on your camera.

This platypod works fantastically with my Olympus tough 6 camera. I was needing a sturdy platform for shooting macro shots and this was perfect.

This will get you out of the box; pictures at ground level are more interesting than those taken 6ft(2m) off the ground.

So Brilliant - an Easy 2nd Tripod

I haven't used my platypod in the field yet, but I've practiced, and I love it. From the minute I opened the box, I knew I would be happy with this item. First, it is an elegant, inspired design. It is sturdy, clear in its features, and, honestly, quite beautiful. Second, I now have two tripods without the inconvenience of all those legs and height. It slips right into the pocket of my camera bag. I am so eager to put it to the test.

The Perfect Product

I love the Platypod. Like, seriously love. I've struggeled with finding a stable way to mount my mirrorless camera on a table. I've fumbled with small tabletop tripods and gorilla pods but they just can't bear the weight. They would tip over if this camera was anything but level. But the platypod is perfect. There are tons of mounting points and I've found it super handy to have in my camera bag. Just throw tripod head on here and you're golden. I like to keep this in my camera bag at all times. I get the most use out of this to record my performances at open mic nights. This is the perfect thing to set a camera on and know it's not going to tip over mid-performance. Whether it's a full-size camera or just a phone, it's perfect/

Careful when removing the screw plate

I bought this for a special needs project after reading all about it and watching numerous reviews about it. It came highly recommended. I got it shortly after ordering it from B&H and took it out to put it to use. I immediatley was impressed with its build and how sturdy it felt. When I tried to set up my camera for the shot, I noticed that the screwholder that sits on the front of the plate and holds the four screws was in the way of the camera for this particular shot. I looked at the box that the Platypod came in and read that the part that was in the way was magnetic and could easily be removed by twisting it. I started twisting it and heard a snap sound and the screw mouning system came off in my hand. When I looked to the back of it I saw two plastic screws that had been holding it to the plate, and not a magnet. One of them was now broken and the screw mounting holder part wont stay on the Platypod now. I love the Platypod, but I have to tempter that thinkking since this part was poorly designed and they gave incorrect directions and I now have a slightly damaged Platypod because of that. It they were to fix this Id give it five stars on its rating.

Will this work with the Canon R5 & the RF 24-70 f2.8L lens ? Or would I need the Platypod Extreme ?
Asked by: Warren
Yes, the Platypod Max Camera Support can handle the weight of the Canon R5 with the Canon RF 24-70 f/2.8 lens. The Extream is stronger and made for larger cameras but again the Max should be fine. But note you should use this with a tripod head.

Which of these is better for use with an Olympus EM-1 with medium to bigger sized lenses? I'm worried about lack of stability with the ultra, but overkill with the max. I do plan on using heavier lenses as time goes on, and may upgrade camera systems in the future.
Asked by: Blake
I would go with the Max, it is not overkill for what you’ve got or will have. Great tool, I enjoy mine, not an everyday used item but it does have some very unique abilities. Very well made and designed. I got the Oben BE-117 later but I see they now offer it with Max, great little arca ballhead. I’d also get the accessories for $15. I’d buy with confidence and enjoy!
