Platypod Pro Max Overview

The Platypod Pro Max Camera Support is a wide, stable, and ultra low-profile platform that allows you to set up a large tripod head, camera, and lens on both horizontal and vertical surfaces.

Measuring 5.3 x 7.8" and only 0.2" thick, the Pro Max Camera Support allows you to photograph or record with a camera that is elevated only slightly higher than the tripod head it is used with. Four reversible, spiked feet that each feature rubber tips on one end can be distributed among five strategically placed, 1/4"-20 threaded holes. Once installed, they can be adjusted to level the platform on uneven surfaces, both indoors and out. For placement on unconventional surfaces and angles, two 2" belt slots allow the Pro Max Camera Support to be secured to a cylindrical object or to be taped onto angled floors. Two nail holes are included for permanent or semi-permanent mounting to walls, boards or ceilings; and for quick placement and removal from conventional tripods or quick release devices, 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes are on the underside of the platform.

When the spike feet and their locking nuts are not in use, a magnetized storage box holds them against the top of the Platypod Pro Max Camera Support. Able to hold up to 300 lb, the Platypod Pro Max Camera Support accepts tripod heads with 3/8"-16 mounts, and is constructed from anodized, aluminum-alloy for durability and corrosion resistance.

Platypod Pro Max Reviews

Definitely add it to your gear

The platy pod has so many opportunities to add many different and amazing angles to your portfolio.

Great small piece.

Fits an Arca Swiss quick release tripod mount for easy switching between various heads and seems stable with a GFX100 attache with an Arca Swiss Cube. I added some rubber feet to the bottom so it doesn't scratch the furnishings it will be placed on, but otherwise seems good to go.

I have not used this too much yet to give everyone a detailed review. I am just so sorry to have not gotten this years ago. I can think of a number of times that I was in a place I will likely not have the pleasure of visiting ever again, and I was stopped from taking pictures because I was relying on my tripod. Oh, if I could have had this then!

High quality product

The Platypod Max is a high quality product that feels substantial and solid, and has a first class finish. The weight and surface area provides stable support. The design provides plenty mounting options as well. Recommended.

Binocular platform!

Platypod Max (Binocular platform) exceeded expectations. I was in search for a platform to support my 10x42 binos. After weeks of research I could not find what I wanted. Naturally I'm opposed to equipment that is not adaptable and with such a singular purpose, and couldn't commit to buying a Leica Bino platform that did not specify compatibility with my Noctivids. Despite the lack of information on the platypods capability of attaching to my tripod ball head I took a leap knowing I could still use it for photography. In summary. This is IMO exactly what is needed. Light, stable, modifiable, adaptable, ergonomic (concavity allows for nose space when viewing), with multiple usage. They should absolutely market this for Binos. With proper torque to ball head you can move/scan Binos to follow subject while still staying stable. Very happy with the product.

Double edged sword

It feels solid, is very stable and a great design. My only (unavoidable) complaint being, it's really big and heavy which negates, to a degree, the portability of it. Pairing it with an old, very large, ball head, the entire thing is a monster.

Very Stable and Versatile

The weight and adjustment options are worth the expense. The portability makes for good use for temporary field cameras. Will Get good use of it.

Which of these is better for use with an Olympus EM-1 with medium to bigger sized lenses? I'm worried about lack of stability with the ultra, but overkill with the max. I do plan on using heavier lenses as time goes on, and may upgrade camera systems in the future.
Asked by: Blake
I would go with the Max, it is not overkill for what you’ve got or will have. Great tool, I enjoy mine, not an everyday used item but it does have some very unique abilities. Very well made and designed. I got the Oben BE-117 later but I see they now offer it with Max, great little arca ballhead. I’d also get the accessories for $15. I’d buy with confidence and enjoy!

I have Really Right Stuff ballheads. Will these marry up to the Platypod?
Asked by: Otis M.
Yes all the RRS Ballheads will fit.

If mounted on it's side. will the weight of a long lens cause the tripod head to loosen from the plate? (unscrew, the 3/8 - 16 joint) This will only happen in one direction.
Asked by: Mike S.
I use a Manfrotto ball head which has ridges on the bottom for set screws found on Manfrotto tripods. So I drilled and tapped my Platypod for a similar set screw. Now it does not unscrew unless I intend it to.

Is the best way to use this stand with a balll head, or just attach it to the base with an arca Swiss type bracket?
Asked by: Karen L.
I use a ball head. Gives me the flexibility to position the camera / stand just about any way I want to and makes it easy to level.

Will i be able to use a Canon 1dx in a vertical orientation with the oben ballhead it is bunfled with?
Asked by: Joey
I bought an L bracket so that it's very easy to have it in either orientation. I use a Gitzo ballhead for info but this is irrelevant if using an L bracket
