TP-Link C5400 overview

  • 1Description

Utilizing both Advanced NitroQAM and 4-Stream technologies, the Archer C5400 Tri-Band MU-MIMO Wireless AC5400 Gigabit Router from TP-Link is capable of achieving combined wireless data transfer rates of up to 5334 Mbps. Combine the enhanced data transfer rates with the ability to connect to any of three wireless frequencies, one 2.4 GHz and two 5 GHz frequencies, and users can connect to the least congested band for optimal network performance. TP-Link has even incorporated their own Smart Connect technology right into this router to automatically connect devices to the band best suited for their network activity ensuring bandwidth is allocated properly giving all clients a high quality network experience.

Most routers are capable of communicating with one or two devices simultaneously which can in turn result in network congestion as devices wait in line to send and receive their data. The Archer C5400 utilizes MU-MIMO technology to provide four separate data highways giving up to four devices the ability to communicate with the router and the network all at the same time. Inside the Archer C5400 you will find a 1.4 GHz dual-core CPU along with 3 co-processors designed to support and manage the high speed data highways flowing through the router. The external housing of this router is adorned by eight high power antennas designed to provide maximum coverage and enhanced wireless connections. In addition to enhanced wireless connectivity, the Archer C5400 comes equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, a single USB 3.0 port and a single USB 2.0 port.

Faster Speed for More Devices
Archer C5400 delivers combined Tri-Band Wi-Fi speeds to 5334 Mbps, letting you dedicate an entire band to gaming without slowing down your network. Smart Connect helps devices run even faster by assigning them to the best available channel to balance network demand.
Smart Connect
When you connect a device to your router, Smart Connect will automatically identify the best available channel and assign the device to it. It is true that piling too many devices on one band might reduce its performance, as a result Smart Connect technology allows your router to automatically choose the most efficient device so that every device is able to reach its full potential.

Your router will create a single, unified SSID (network name) that you can log into using a single password. All you have to do is log into one network one time, then the router does the rest, automatically giving each device access to every band and assigning it to the best one. But this doesn't mean that you've lost all control over the way devices are assigned and reassigned on the network. The user-friendly web portal allows you to see which devices are on each band at any point in time and manually move to whichever band you prefer.

Smart Connect relies on an advanced algorithm that not only automatically determines which band is best for each device, but also constantly monitors the overall status of each device to determine if and when a particular device would benefit from being automatically reassigned to a different band.
Tri-Band Connectivity
Tri-band Wi-Fi combats overcrowding, and all of its unfortunate effects, by creating an additional connection on the 5 GHz band, with wireless speed of up to 1300 Mbps. This means that your router will simultaneously establish three separate connections, one on the 2.4 GHz band and two on the 5 GHz band. As users begin to rely on their wireless network more every day and continue to connect more wireless devices than ever before, the workload can be spread out to reduce competition and congestion. To keep things as simple as possible and ensure that you will get the best performance from your tri-band network, each router comes equipped with Smart Connect technology. This helps devices achieve optimal performance by assigning them to the best available channel and effectively balancing network demand.
NitroQAM and 4-Stream Support Maximum Wi-Fi Speed
The Archer C5400 gets a performance boosts of up to 25%, thanks to NitroQAM (1024-QAM) and 4-Stream. These advanced technologies allow the router's 2.4 GHz band and both of its 5 GHz bands to provide speeds of up to 1000 Mbps and 2167 Mbps, respectively. With NitroQAM and 4-Stream, you can game at the highest settings without lagging.
MU-MIMO for Non-Stop Entertainment
The Archer C5400 does more than just create faster Wi-Fi, it helps your devices achieve optimal performance by making communication more efficient. With MU-MIMO technology, the Archer C5400 can provide four simultaneous data streams, allowing all connected devices to achieve speeds up to 4X faster than standard AC routers.

The traditional Wi-Fi routers with Single-User MIMO serve only one user at a time while other users that rely on that connection are forced to wait, which diminishes performance and overall capacity. This effect is even stronger when more than one user attempts to access multi-media content, such as HD video. MU-MIMO solves this problem by creating 3 simultaneous connections to serve several users with 3 data streams at the same time. With technological development MU-MIMO can provide more spatial streams and serve more users simultaneously.
Maximized Range and Efficiency
Eight antennas with Beamforming technology detect the locations of your connected devices and concentrate wireless signal strength toward them. This makes all of your connections more efficient and stable, improving network performance, even in medium-sized offices and public cafes.
Fast Wired Connectivity
External hard drives can connect directly to the Archer C5400 via its USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, making it easy to share large files, photos, music and video across your network. To help your wired devices achieve peak performance for smooth gaming and streaming, the four Gigabit Ethernet ports operate 10x faster than standard Ethernet.
Easy Setup and Use
Set up the Archer C5400 in minutes thanks to its intuitive web interface and the powerful Tether app. Tether lets you manage network settings, including parental controls and media sharing preferences, from any Android or iOS device.

    TP-Link C5400 reviews

    Archer C5400 Tri-Band MU-MIMO Wireless AC5400 Gigabit Router is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from too many software problems after using this product for a while, I found it's very buggy on auxiliary features, like if you were sharing very large file via ftp, then the file is not shared in whole, only a portion of the file are accessible, and if you were using parental control heavily, like putting 40 or more keywords in the blacklist, the network speed of the controlled device will be affected severely, and many times the websites not in the list are also way slow than the free devices. the software need to be tested thoroughly before releasing a product to the customer. plus the bragged MU-MIMO feature is still not available yet. I may never buy a TP-LINK product any more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far So Great! I've had this router a week so far and I absolutely love it. I am coming from an AC1900 dual-band router so this is a nice upgrade for me. I have many smart home devices and plan to add more, so having a powerful router is a must. Setup was easy and the web UI is feature-rich and very well laid out. One of the best UIs I've used (and I just came from the Asus-WRT). I haven't noticed an exceptional increase in range, but it is noticeable. It doesn't help that all of my networking equipment is tucked into the far corner of the house. However, what IS highly noticeable is the WI-fi speeds. Very much improved over my AC1900. This router has been very stable so far and I hope it continues. This router has a great price for all that it does. If you need a little more power on your network, I highly recommend this router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The fastest and efficient router, easy to setup, I bought this router to replace my old Linksys 802.11n. The main reason was to extend the wi-fi range to my new TV that supports 802.11ac. The router is on the 1st floor and the TV is on the 2nd at about 50 foot distance behind 3 walls. The TV doesn't tell me the link speed but it shows signal strength 2 bars of 4, and streams my 1080p mkv files from my local NAS without any glitches. My son's laptop now shows about 450 Mbps connection speed (was 72 Mbps at most before the upgrade), he is about 40 feet behind 2 walls from the router. Setting up was very easy, took me less than 15 minutes. The interface provides lots of settings, for example you can set up specific hours of day for access for any connected wifi computer in your house. You can even turn off the blue LEDs on the front panel or make them go off during specific hours. You can turn on/off any of the 3 bands, 2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz Band 1, 5 Ghz Band 2, to save power. The unit stays barely reasonably warm during normal operation, no overheating whatsoever. Overall, this is a very good product. Looks like the fastest wifi router to date.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent router. This router sets up in next to no time. There are so many options I decided to reset to factory default and start over. I have been using this for 2 weeks and I am still tweaking it. Love this router, well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable router with good coverage Purchased to replace an aging Engenius AC1200 router which started losing 2.4Ghz band. Reception definitely improved, but not enough for me to stop using a repeater on the 2nd floor. Configuration took < 15 minutes to replicate my existing setup with regular network and a guest network. I was also able to set up OpenVPN server and dynamic DNS very easily - both work like a charm. I also tried enabling the Smart Connect, but it seems to place every client (with few exceptions) on the slow 2.4Ghz frequency. I disabled it after a few hours of testing since I don't really mind separating frequencies into unique SSID and connecting to specific SSID to select a frequency. Performance is much more consistent with Smart Connect off. LEDs can be turned off and even scheduled to turn off on schedule. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with the performance, reach and stability of this router at the moment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be sure to read the TP-Link Forum Issue With 2,4GHZ Radio After a while the 2.4GHZ band will dropout and if it is seen will not accept a connection. This seems to be a known issue w/o a solution.
