Cactus V6 II Transceiver Overview

Able to support numerous brands and types of speedlights and flashes, the Cactus Wireless Flash Transceiver V6 II is a versatile and capable flash trigger that offers added functionality to make remote flash work easier. This model is able to support Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, and Pentax flash systems with ease and uses 2.4 GHz radio communication to trigger other units from up to 328' away. The main advantage of the V6 II is high-speed sync, of which two modes are offered. A normal setting uses a protocol depending on the camera system involved whereas the Power Sync can boost the flash for moments when Normal HSS is not powerful enough.

Users will be able to set up flashes in one of sixteen channels or three groups. Also, it has a Multi-Master setting that allows multiple shooters to trigger the same flashes, useful for demonstrations or events with a second shooter. By using flash profiles to register specific speedlights, the V6 II gains a few capabilities, such as an Absolute Power Mode, which calculates the equivalent power settings between multiple flashes. Additionally, it has a TTL pass-through hot shoe on the top and offers a 3.5mm sync terminal for plugging into strobes and other lights.

Features: Please note that high speed sync is not supported when using the following cameras: Fujifilm X-E2 Panasonic DMC-GX8

Please note that this item is incompatible with some copies of the following cameras: Olympus OM-D E-M1

Cactus V6 II Transceiver Reviews

Finally a multi-system TTL Lighting Setup!

I recently sold my Nikon d810 and multiple lenses and strobes I've collected over the last 8 years. I replaced it with a Sony A7R3 and Cactus RF60X speedlights. The only thing I need to switch to get full TTL support on both my Sony and Panasonic GH5 is the Cactus Transceiver.

Not for Fuji GFX

I tried it on my Fuji GFX, it did not work, reliably, if at all. I returned it, and went to Godox which works well on the Fuji.

A couple of Cactus RF60x's paired with a V6 II is simply awesome! I would highly recommend. I'm a big Cactus fan!

Works as advertised, I use it with my Pentax 645z in order to shoot HSS outdoors with studio lights.

I recently sold all my Nikon gear except for my speedlights and committed to Fuji X and GFX. Kept the speedlights figuring they'd be good for manual trigger with my PW Plus III's. I was thrilled to discover this Cactus transceiver that allows cross brand TTL. It took some time playing with them to get it to work but I am now a happy camper. Frankly my early frustration may have been my fault. I just did test shots in my studio with the X Pro2, Nikon SB-900 and 56mm f1.2. From f4-f16 the exposure of my test dummy was exactly the same. I would say the construction is not that robust but similar to my Pocket Wizards. It is quite large on an X body camera, much larger then the PW MiniFlex I had for my Nikons. Overall though I am pleased.

Very inconsistent

I purchased this one after I had trouble with the V61s not always firing. I've had to update the firmware multiple times and I just can't get consistent results when shooting with the pass through TTL. Most notably, I loose connection to it in the middle of shoots. I shoot weddings, and can't afford to have it stop working in the middle of an event like the first dance or cake cutting. It seems to take very little to jostle my flash on top and disrupt my connection. Probably fine in a studio, but not in the field.

Cactus V6 ll and Fuji XT-2

My unit works flawlessly. It is intuitive and easy to use once you have used it a few times . You MUST go to the cactus website and make sure you are using the correct firmware. The most recent firmware is not always the firmware you should be using so check the site. If you do this you will be rewarded with an excellent trigger . No complaints whatsoever.

Off Camera Flash

A pair of Cactus RF60x flash and a Cactus V6II trigger, updated to the latest firmware (Pen.A.001) , works like a dream on my Pentax K3 and K50. Off camera TTL, HSS, power and zoom control. Easy, reliable non "Fiddly". I use a second V6II paired to a Pentax AF540FGZII flash. Makes life sweet. ..FYI, If you use the updated firmware (Pen.A.001) V6II will not work with the older V6 triggers. V6II triggers are digital, the older V6 and V5 are analog.

question

Does the V6II work in high speed sync with Flash Transceiver V5 Duo in TTL? If not, which model receiver do you use?
Asked by: Paul
While you can trigger a V5 unit from a V6 II, the highest sync speed possible is 1/1000 of a sec with the V5.

question

Can I use a Cactus transceiver on the camera (X-T20) to send a TTL signal to an Yongnuo flash (YN560 IV) off-camera? Or do I have to buy two Cactus (one for the camera and one for the flash) so the TTL can work?
Asked by: R. S.
A Cactus V6 II must be connected to the YN560 IV flash in order to trigger it from a Cactus V6 II on your camera. The internal radio receiver that the YN560 IV has will only be triggered by the Yongnuo YN560 TX for Nikon or Canon.

question

Can I mount it on Panasonic GX7/GX8 and able to control Godox AD600 without any receiver???
Asked by: Dmitry
To work with the V6 II you need a receiver on each flash. The best is to get a V6 II for each off camera flash in addition to one for the camera. On compatibility it should work with Godox flashes. But there are pre-installed flash profiles in the V6II and that particular Godox is not installed. But in the learn mode it should work.

question

Will this work with Leica Q for ttl?
Asked by: Tyler
This units do not pass TTL info with any camera. But they need a TTL capable flash to remote control the power and the zoom head. You can read all info on the manufacturer website.

Will this unit work on a Nikon D5? Seems some of the transceivers don't work with D5 and D500 Nikon's newer cameras...

question

If I have the same brand... say Panasonic Flash and a Pansonic Camera... will the TTL information pass from the transmitter to the Flash off the camera as if it were on the Camera itself? I'm not really understanding what they mean by TTL pass through. I like M43 but finding HSS that will work with TTL seems impossible.
Asked by: john m.
The TTL Pass Through refers to the TTL signal being passed between the camera the flash, being that there are multiple contacts on the hotshoe, just as it would when the flash is on camera. Cactus mentions that in order to utilize this function, the flash and camera need to belong to the same TTL system.
