EVGA GTX 1070 SC overview

  • 1Description

With a slightly overclocked core and based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture, the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There are three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs in addition to an HDMI 2.0b output and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1070 is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 1920 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.

For cooling, EVGA implemented ACX 3.0 cooling technology. SHP 3.0 has more heatpipes and a larger copper contact area for cooler operation as well as optimized fan curve for even quieter gaming. The dual fans feature optimized swept fan blades, double ball bearings, and an extreme low power motor, delivering more air flow with less power and unlocking additional power for the GPU.

VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
SLI Ready
With a compatible motherboard and a connecting bracket, two or more NVIDIA GPUs of the same model can combine processing power using NVIDIA's Scalable Link Interface (SLI). How the cards work together can be customized to suit your preferences. Alternate frame rendering has each alternating card prepare the next frame, essentially multiplying the capabilities of a single card's maximum capable frame rate output. Each card in the configuration can also be used to improve anti-aliasing by being able to process an image in parallel with the other cards before filtering out jagged edges.

NVIDIA's SLI HB bridge doubles the available transfer bandwidth compared to the NVIDIA Maxwell architecture. Delivering smooth gameplay, it's an effective way to enjoy surround gaming and it's only compatible with the GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards.

Note: The benefits of SLI will vary based on component configuration.
With CUDA, NVIDIA allows applications to hand off CPU-intensive tasks to the GPU. Your GPU is no longer just used for rendering graphics, but it can provide teraflops of floating point performance and accelerate application tasks, from real-time video rendering to fluid dynamics simulation. CUDA is used in many applications and games.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

    EVGA GTX 1070 SC reviews

GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING Graphics Card is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MY GTX 1070 Great Card for 1440p gamming, most of my games with ultra settings getting around 50 to 60fps. If your trying to do 4K gamming you'll need to look at a minimum for a gtx 1080. But overall the gtx 1070 seems to match good with my 1440p monitor. Upgraded to the 1070sc from a 970ssc which couldn't quite handle my 1440p monitor well enough for my taste. If I still had a 1080p monitor I would have just stayed with my 970 as it had no problem running ultra settings in all my games. But I really needed some more umph to drive my new monitor. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and although the cost was high it wasn't nearly as high as the cost of a gtx1080.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Stopping Me Now! Honestly, this is an excellent graphics card. It will run anything out there now and is positioned for the future with 4k and VR capabilities. Some of the features that I like is that It runs quiet, cool and is very power efficient. Overall, great choice is you are looking to upgrade to the 1000 series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Runs Cool & Quiet Well built card that runs cool and quiet. Frame rates in graphic intensive games (Call of Duty, Tom Clancy, Fallout 4) exceed 100 when maxed out. Card idles at 24 degrees and has never exceeded 63 Celsius while gaming. Very happy with it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great card. Quiet. Solid FPS So far so good. Great card for 1440p60. Handles everything I've thrown at it. Witcher 3, Battlefield 1 beta, DOOM...all run at 1440p with solid 60 FPS (I lock v-sync) at ultra settings. Everything runs and looks great. Thought my older i5-3570k (3.40Ghz) would maybe be a bottleneck but this card allows for everything to run great. Its quiet too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Card Very happy with this card. First card received had terrible coil whine. Requested a replacement which BH Photo promptly sent out after receiving mine. Second card is perfect, nice and quite. The only issue i have is with Microsoft. The included Gears of War 4 will only run with Windows 10 Anniversary update. Tx BH for excellent customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good upgrade I upgraded my rig from a r9 380 to this card. It feels good to switch from AMD to Nvidia. Yeah, I paid a lot more but it feels more professional and legit. My only concern about this card is heat. It usually sits at 78C at load. My r9 380 never passed 73C. But card is silent so I guess that is the trade we get. I play at 2560x1080. I can't max out every thing on GTA 5 but it is good enough. with msaa x4 I usually never leave the 50-60 frame area. It will have plenty of power for 1920x1080 gaming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended especially if it's on special Great and beautiful card for the money. I love that they used real metal since it adds to its visual quality. Great card for future proofing your rig it will play anything you throw at it at the highest settings.
