I paid a lot of money for this flash! Then you ask me for a review, to advertise for you. Buy your own. Oh, I’ll go ahead and take the $1000 gift card.

Not there yet

Used it at a wedding. Have to return and wait until Profoto hopefully makes an A1 for Fuji! Reasons: 1- Color inconsistent between shots from completely white to completely yellow. 2- Head is too small, smaller than Nikon's SB-910 3- SLOW recycle time, loosing shots in between.

Nice flash, works very nicely with just a couple of wish they had it do that thoughts. Overall, really good flash and just what the X-t2 needed.

Fuji Did It Pretty Well

By Peter

Fuji was way behind on its flash development as all of X shooters know. I bought this the first time when I was in Singapore over New Year's. It has a Guide number of 50M, so it is about 160', which is more than adequate for 90% of what I need and when it is not, I gang 2 together. It works perfectly in TTL mode and I use it regularly at events where here will be things like kids running around varying distances, etc. Otherwise, I almost always use any flash on manual mode. (I also have the Cactus system by the way, but wanted the Fuji's for their TTL and high speed sync). What really excites me is I recently got the Roboshoot system for wireless and it works really well. I hae to get to used to using the iPhone as part of the shooting kit though. I just ordered 2 more flashes to bring the total to 4 as I sometimes gang 2 of them for more power. Also, it will go down to 1/512th of a second. No hummingbird can flap its wings that fast. Frankly, I do not know when I would ever use that setting, but now the imagination is sparked and I want to figure out what to do with that setting. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 is Fuji skimped and it is an optical rather than a radio system without something like the Roboshoot. Solidly built, reasonable reset time. Obviously if I have 4 of them I would recommend them to Fuji X shooters.

Competent but pricey

If this was priced under $300 it would be a 4.5-Star flash. But at nearly $450 (US) it lacks capabilities that should have been included. Performance-wise, it's powerful enough, especially if you only need a flash for flash work. And that power is put into a nicely small-ish sized unit. Another thing is it doesn't easily overheat. But for night work, or, studio work, it's has design flaws -focus lamp too garish, for example- and lack features, such as a restrictive remote implementation. Best to read professional reviews and figure-out what your needs are before spending. Bottom Line: Well built, small and powerful, but too expensive to justify for occasional use.

Limited use flash

The flash is fully integrated with the Fuji Xpro2. Settings can be controlled from the camera menu. A major omission is that Fiji does not offer a TTL off camera cord or radio control. I must add a comparable hot shoe flash or radio control to use the EF-X500 off camera.

question

What is the proper PC sync cord for syncing this flash to the Fujifilm X-Pro2?
Asked by: Brendan H.
Unfortunately, I do not currently see the Fujifilm EF-X500 Flash listing a PC sync terminal as a feature under the Specifications tab on Fujifilm's website, and at this time, Fujifilm has not yet released the instruction manual for the EF-X500 Flash, so I cannot confirm or state if a/which PC sync cable may work for your needs. I would recommend checking back once the flash is available for purchase or the instruction manual is released online.

I just bought the TTL FujiFilm radio receiver for ...

I just bought the TTL FujiFilm radio receiver for the Godox AD200 flashes. Will the EF-X500 work with this set-up? If so, do I use the same radio receiver system to sync this flash? Thank you!
Asked by: Ardella
If you have the Godox X1T-F or Godox X-PRO F transmitter to fire the AD200, which has a built in receiver, you would not be able to fire the EF-X500. There are presently no Fujifilm compatible receivers from Godox.

question

What adapter and sync cord should I purchase for using this flash, wired, to an X-Pro2?
Asked by: Brendan H.
There are no TTL cords yet, but if you are using this on the X-Pro2, you won't need to adapt it since it was made for the X-series cameras.

question

I'd like to attach a Quantum Turbo 3 battery back to the EF-X500. Is that possible? If so, which cable/connector is compatible? Sony? Canon? It's definitely not Nikon.
Asked by: Dio
This flash is only meant to be used with the EF-BP1 battery pack. Any use of a third-party external battery pack may result in serious damage to the flash unit.
