Available for download, the Hans Ruckers II Harpsichord Add-On from Pianoteq is a virtual instrument which models a notable harpsichord: a Hans Ruckers II Le Jeune model from 1624. The virtual representation carries the sound of the antique instrument into the digital world, though it provides some interesting additions as well.
This software provides you an extended range (this virtual instrument offers two more octaves than its analog counterpart), a three-register configuration which can be combined in ways heretofore impossible in the corporeal universe, and four different pedals. You are provided with the customary sustain and soft pedals, but you also get a buff-stop and bassoon pedal; these allow you to adjust the hammers' contact with the strings in order to engender anything from a muted timbre to a rattling sound. This add-on requires Pianoteq 5.6 or later in order to run.
