Leica 12592 overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Leica 12592 reviews

Lens Hood for 24mm f/2.8 M Aspherical is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Also Designated for the 21mm f2.8 M Asph The design of this hood has one inherit flaw, and that is on the upper left hand corner, they left a triangular opening so that you might be able to see through the hood when the lens is mounted on the camera. During a recent shoot, I must have bumped this delicate corner of the hood and had the piece break off. I tried to glue it back with epoxy, but it isn't quite strong enough to bond the plastic that Leica uses. Not too many shops carry replacement hoods, and those who do, ask an awful lot for a replacement. B&H had the hood in stock and at a reasonable price. That is why I continue to do business with B&H over the years as a pro-photographer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to fasten This fancy lens hood came with my Leica 21-mm. f 2.8 lens. The lens cover dropped off in the woods of Colorado in the summer of 2010, and the rest of the hood fell off in Paris in September. It took me a while to order the pricey replacement. But the lens offers such striking images I use it often. The hood does a nice job of deflecting stray sunbeams from this awesome lens. But it was always hard to mount on the lens. Nor could I mount the replacement until -- by accident -- I set the lens down head first with the hood attached at an angle, as usual. That jarred the lens hood into a perfect fit. Now if I can just do the same in the field.
