Store, access, and edit up to 1.2TB of data with read speeds up to 2,500 MB/s and write speeds up to 1,200 MB/s using the 1.2TB Thunder3 Thunderbolt 3 External PCIe SSD from Akitio. This storage device was built using an Intel 750 Series PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD with an NVMe interface, which helps to maximize the bandwidth of the drive's dual 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 interfaces, each of which also supports 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-C and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2. While one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports is used to connect this device to your host system, the other one can be used to daisy-chain up to six total Thunderbolt 3 devices together or up to two 4K displays simultaneously.
Aside from the dual Thunderbolt 3 ports, the Thunder3 is equipped with a dedicated DisplayPort 1.2a output that supports 4K video at 60 Hz, allowing users to connect an additional monitor to extend their workspace and thus leaving the remaining Thunderbolt 3 port available for other Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Type-C, or DisplayPort 1.2 peripherals. In order to use the dedicated DisplayPort output, the Thunder3 must be connected to your host system using Thunderbolt 3.
The 1.2TB Thunder3 Thunderbolt 3 External PCIe SSD has been built using a durable and rugged aluminum casing and is compatible with systems running Windows 7 and later. It requires a Thunderbolt 3 port, Intel's PCIe SSD driver, and is not compatible with Mac OS X or Apple Boot Camp. Included is a Thunderbolt 3 / USB Type-C cable and a power adapter that operates at 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz. The Thunder3 is protected by a limited 2-year warranty.
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.
The dedicated DisplayPort connector makes it easy to connect an additional monitor to extend your workspace. This video output capability requires a Thunderbolt 3 connection to the host computer and will free up the second Thunderbolt 3 port for Thunderbolt 3 (up to 5 daisy-chained), USB 3.1 (10 Gbps), and DisplayPort devices.
