    SiliconDust HDHomeRun EXTEND reviews

HDHomeRun EXTEND is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the cost My cable bill became just too much. I already had a professional Over The Air Digital Antenna system installed on my TV Service shop located 300 feet from my home. I hooked my antenna to my HDHome Run Extend and plugged the HDHRE into my shop\home Netgear 8 port LAN switch. Installed the HDHomeRun software on my PCs, iOS mobile devices, AmazonFire andRoku Streaming Sticks and smart TVs. All work great However; I have a great Gigabit LAN and fast Netgear AC router. I was really surprisedthat everything works. I just had to learn how to use the software. I have yet to set up a NAS storage so I do not have the DVR set up yet. Go for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Met Expectations I bought this to use with the DVR functionality of Plex... Works exactly how I thought it would... I did have some questions about whether to get the CONNECT or the EXTEND model... The only differences are that the EXTEND encodes on the fly on the device (but only has N wireless speeds), while the CONNECT does not encode (but has AC wireless speeds to compensate)... I stand by my EXTEND decision as the off-loading of the encoding was important to me, and I ended up plugging in a network cable anyway, which made the wireless speeds redundant. Shipping was quick too... Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy set-up, great tech! This network TV receiver works very well. I can pull TV signal to my desktop using the downloadable program. The signal is clear and it pulls in all of the channels in my area. At present, I'm using this with the beta version of the PlexDVR (plex.tv/dvr) and I'm impressed with the performance. As the PlexDVR gets more mature, I'm looking forward to dropping my TiVo service entirely. The bottom line is that this is a great device for cord cutters and tech tinkerers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible produc After purchasing the connect version and seeing the stuttering that was present on almost all devices, I decided to purchase the extend. The device is totally incapable of encoding at a speed required to even reduce the stuttering and the more the device is taxed by compressing the video, the worse the stuttering becomes. I have a giant double bowtie HD antenna with one splitter to connect to two coax outlets. If this thing can't handle one split without significant signal degradation then put that on the box so people like me won't buy it. For the record, the device was ethernet connected to my router and my router is an Archer AC3150 (an Amazon's choice FWIW). I've tested my client wifi connections at well over 100MBS. Back to the Connect version which at least seemed to work on my apple TV which was also connected via gigabit ethernet to my router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product Messed around with Tablo which I liked their interface but had issues. Switched to HDHomerun and Plex DVR. So far it has been great. The HDHomerun Extend transcodes files to H.264 on the fly making it easier to stream files over WIFI and to mobile devices. Really liking the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome TV Tuner Works with Plex TV wonderfully. DNLA for TVs compatible works great too. Other than minor 'cannot tune into station now' issue, the Extend version and hardware decode works perfectly for 'none' trans-coding and provides native playback across your whole home. I wish HDHomerun would make a 4-tuner Extend version. I bought Extend version to relieve CPU processing from my Xeon server for Plex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDHomeRun EXTEND - Excellent product I purchased this device in order to stream live TV to all my AppleTV devices as well as iOS devices. This may seem trivial however getting a good antenna signal and not having to have rabbit ears or wires everywhere is huge! It is also much simpler in not having to change the input on the TV if all the signals are being channeled through AppleTV; DirectvNow, Hulu, HBONow, Netflix etc.... It makes for seamless TV watching and I don't have to keep explaining to other users how to operate the TV entertainment system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learn from my mistake! I bought the Connect originally, but I had a lot of issues with pixelation or the video freezing. The Extend fixed all my issues as it compresses the video on the device before sending it over WiFi. If you are in doubt of which unit to buy, I'd say splurge on the Extend.
