Why this product is discontinued and is there any chance to have it back?
We were not told why Manfrotto discontinued this product. There is no indication that it might come back. I would suggest searching the used market.

Anyone using the DD with an iPad Pro, Nikon D810, and experiencing a very low res, grainy live view?
This is a limitation on most Nikon DSLRs. The live view resolution is only about 640x480 (640x426 on some models) so that's the signal that gets streamed over the USB connection. When you blow that up to a large screen like the iPad Pro, the result is a grainy image, much like if you zoomed in on a low resolution jpeg.

I've had this item in my shopping cart but am waiting to order because I have been unsuccessful in tracking down the app in the Apple App Store. I can't find it in searches for Manfrotto or Digital Director. Does it exist?

Sorry, mine is for a mini. Works better for stills than video. Has good video functionality, though.
