Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 overview

  • 1Description

A compact normal-length prime designed for Nikon F-mount DSLRs, the YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens from Yongnuo pairs the classic 50mm focal length with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture to suit working in a variety of situations. Multi-coated glass elements reduce the effects of lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and maintained color accuracy. An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel permits quick switching between focusing methods, and the lens can focus as closely as 1.5' to suit photographing close-up subjects. While compact and lightweight in design, a metal bayonet lens mount ensures a secure, durable connection between the camera and lens and gold-plated contacts permit working with all exposure modes as well as transferring lens information to the EXIF data. A tried-and-true lens construction with design enhancements to benefit handling, this lens is an ideal walk-around lens for everyday shooting.

Prime normal-length lens designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, this lens can also be used with DX-format DSLRs where it will provide a 75mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and also benefits working in a variety of lighting conditions.
Multi-coated glass elements increase contrast and maintain color accuracy by reducing flare and ghosting.
An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel allows you to select focusing methods, with either setting allowing you to focus as closely as 1.5' away.
Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.
Compact, lightweight design incorporates a metal bayonet lens mount for added durability.
Gold-plated electronic contacts convey EXIF data between camera and lens and also permit working M, Av, Tv, and P shooting modes.

    Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 reviews

YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens for Nikon F is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens for the price I am extremely happy with the yongnuo lens. Make sure you take the plastic off the inside of the lens, as I was shooting for a week with it on and still impressed with the picture quality ? I haven't shot with the Nikon make so I can't make a valid comparison. But I am say it's a great addition and a must have.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens on a Nikon Df - A sleeper at a fraction of Nikon$ This lens looks great on my full frame df and performs very well. The images are crisp even wide open with dramatic DOF. For those of you that have focusing issues - make sure to peel of plastic protectors from both front and rear elements. I am knocking one star off as the build is average and plasticky, but optics are just fine. Uploading an unaltered image straight from the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bokeh on a budget Just a beginner level photographer with a d3400(which I got from b&h) who decided to venture on a cheaper lens. I got this lens a day ago and I was astounded by the bokeh that was achieved. I don’t know how this holds up to a Nikon 1.8G 50 mm but there are lot of videos showing the difference but I am content with the outcome. Yes , as others have mentioned this lens is a bit slow to search for the subject as compared to the kit lens. You might not like the slowness if this lens is used to take a video, otherwise it’s good for taking picture. I have used it for almost 700 clicks and so for no issues. The pictures are softer as compared to the kit lens. Hey for the price I am not complaining.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great price, but you get a LOT of flares The very first pic I did with this lens was very dissapointing, I've seen the reviews stating about the flares you'd get when shooting with lights inside the frame. Should have take that adivce... They are very visible, and can ruin your shot. I'm still considering changing for the Nikon 50 mm 1.8. Still, you get what you pay for, and in other light conditions you get nice quality pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lens for the price! Feels like a Nikon. I bought this lens because the Nikon 50mm 1.8g was not in my 'college student' price range. I mean Nikon's 50mm 1.8g was fabulous but for the price of this lens, you can't complain. I have recommended this product to so many of my friends, coworkers. The auto focus on the lens is not super-fast like the Nikon, but the lens does its job very well. I you want to try out a 50mm 1.8g lens I recommend this lens, I love it. I cannot get enough of this lens. I have attached some pictures from this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens for the price I wasn't expecting a lot from this lens given its price, but I was mildly surprised by the quality of the lens. I can't tell any significant difference in images compared to my 35mm Nikon lens. The focus has a bit of a problem at times in dim light, but that is fairly common to most lens in dim light. The focus motor isn't as quiet as on a Nikon lens, but people won't be looking at you when the lens is focusing wondering where all the noise is coming from. The sound of the motor is very low and acceptable. If you want to spend a lot of money you can probably get a lens with a bit better image quality at f1.8, but if you want to shoot wide open for portraits you will find this lens more than acceptable.
