HP 17-s030nr overview

  • 1Description

The 17.3" ENVY 17-s030nr Multi-Touch Notebook from HP is a large, portable notebook designed to handle everyday tasks such as browsing the Internet, creating and editing documents, watching or streaming videos, and even some gaming. Powered by a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7-6500U Dual-Core processor and 12GB of DDR3L RAM, the HP ENVY 17 enables you to efficiently multitask as well as quickly access frequently used files and programs. When you're handling a heavier workload, the CPU can reach up to 3.1 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost technology. Even though this system has two RAM slots, they are not user upgradeable.

Its 17.3" display, built with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel that provides you with vivid colors and wide viewing angles, has a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution so you can enjoy crisp, clear, and immersive HD content. Because the display is also a touchscreen, you can utilize touch gestures and commands to enhance its efficiency and accessibility. Driven by a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card with 4GB of DDR3 VRAM, the HP ENVY 17 can even run graphically demanding games. Enable additional graphical settings and crank up in-game visual options to enjoy games at their best. An HDMI port lets you connect an external display for additional screen real-estate.

Unlike most notebooks, the HP ENVY 17 is equipped with a hybrid drive for storage. It spins at 5400 rpm and has a 1TB capacity with 8GB of NAND, which lets you boot up and load files and programs quickly. If you need more space, you can connect external storage devices using its multiple USB ports as well as its multi-format media card reader, which can also be used to quickly transfer files from mobile devices. Should you run out of USB ports or would rather save them for other devices, you can pair compatible wireless peripherals using Bluetooth 4.0 technology.

Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Wi-Fi or the 10/100 Ethernet port for a more stable and reliable wired connection. Other integrated features include speakers, microphones, a webcam for video chatting capabilities, a SuperMulti DVD drive that lets you read and write optical media, a backlit keyboard for typing in dimly lit environments, and a 3.5mm microphone and headphone combo jack. Additionally, the HP ENVY 17 comes with a few bonuses to help you get started. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home.

NVIDIA GeForce Graphics
Equipped with a dedicated graphics card, the HP ENVY 17 can handle gaming better than devices with standard integrated graphics. This means you'll be able to enable additional graphical options and crank up in-game settings so you can enjoy games at their best.
Solid-State Hybrid Drive
The HP ENVY 17 has a 1TB 5400 rpm hybrid drive with 8GB of NAND cache, which allows you to boot up and launch apps quickly. This SSD and HDD hybrid drive delivers all-around performance, ideal for the typical user.
SuperMulti DVD Drive
A SuperMulti DVD drives enables you to read and write optical media. That means watching movies, saving home videos, and more.
1-Year 25GB Dropbox Storage
The HP Envy 17 comes with a one year subscription to 25GB of cloud storage from Dropbox.
3-Months of Evernote Premium
Write notes, create lists, and streamline your thoughts with Evernote Premium. The HP ENVY 17 comes with a three month license so you can keep your life organized.
McAfee LiveSafe
Keep your system safe and secure with a free 30-day trial of McAfee LiveSafe.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.
