Zhiyun Crane v2 Overview

The Zhiyun-Tech Crane v2 is a 3-axis handheld gimbal stabilizer offering 360° rotation along all three axes. It offers button-powered continuous rotation along the pan axis, and manual non-stop circular rotation along the tilt and roll axes.

The Crane is designed for DSLR and mirrorless cameras weighing up to 3.9 lb, such as the Sony a7S and Panasonic GH4, and includes an attachable lens support for long lenses. The Crane features three 32-bit MCUs (motor control units) running in parallel at 4000 Hz, and has a stepless joystick at your fingertips that allows switching between different modes. Cameras attach by securing a simple thumbscrew without any tools, and full setup can be achieved within a minute.

A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole on the bottom also allows use with monopods and various other support equipment. The Crane can also be controlled wirelessly from an iOS/Android app (available from Zhiyun-Tech) via a built-in Bluetooth connection to your phone. The Crane runs on and comes with two 26500 batteries which feature a 12- to 18-hour runtime.

Note:
The Crane v2 is the original Crane updated with a higher payload (3.9 lb) and higher-capacity batteries (12-18 hours).

Only lasted year, which unfortunately is right after the warranty ran out.

No support from manufacturer

Before I ditched my Glidecam for this, I had this feeling I would end up regretting it. When it works, it's great... but it is full of glitches and most of the time doesn't work well. From the start the batteries stopped charging after a few gigs. I have informed Zhiyun : not covered !? I have been struggling to get the app working... no success.. IMPOSSIBLE to connect to Gimbal. Impossible to find a firmware update : the product is not even listed of their website ! Last week I was filming and the Gimbal's motors would randomly stop working every 5 mins or so. I had to reboot the gimbal. It is an un reliable piece of equipment, with NO support from the manufacturer. I love motorized gimbals, but by all mean, do not buy one from Zhiyun. Pay a bit more and get something reliable.

Cheap Plastic Buttons Break & Are Impossible to Replace

When I first got the V2 the toggle button broke immediately. It was still under warranty so I was able to exchange the gimbal for a new one. Now the plastic power button is broken. After calling B&H and then calling and texting Zhiyun's customer service in India half a dozen times, it appears that getting a new button sent to me is simply not possible.

Very good!

It broke after three times of use and the support didn’t help

Don’t spend your money in this equipment. After three times of using it, the motors don’t work anymore. I contacted zhyiun support because the product it’s still guaranteed, they told me to send it back to the US (I live in Brazil, where they don’t offer any support), I spent a lot of money to do this, received it today and the equipment came in the exact same box, package in the exact same way, with the same problem. Do they think this is a joke??? I want my money back!!!!

Not that good.

The weight limit on this is not very good. It was fine when I was just a new filmmaker using a Canon M50 with the kit lens, but as I upgraded I found that it wasn't able to hold heavier rigs. This was a more justifiable purchase when it MSRPed at 350, but at 400, you're much better off getting the Weebill S, which at this point is Zhiyun's flagship gimbal.

Very usable generally

question

Would a Lumix G7 work better on this than the Zhiyun Crane-M?
Asked by: Anonymous
Both the Crane 3-Axis and the Crane-M 3-Axis can easily handle the 1.15 lbs of the Lumix DMC-G7 with a 14-42mm Lens. Buy based on your now and future needs and budget.

question

I am looking to get this item for my a6000. However, i have the rokinon 50mm f1.4 cin lens that weighs 580grams. combined with the a6000 weight it is still under the weight limit. But, what i am curious is if this setup, although under limit, will be to front heavy to stabilize?
Asked by: Gabriel M.
why would you use a 50mm lens on a gimbal? It kind of defeats the whole purpose of the gimbal. What you need is a lens with a wide field of view where traveling shots look good.

question

How well does this work with a Lumix G7 and a Sigma 18-35 with a basic adapter?
Asked by: Aakash
We are of the opinion the lens is too big and you cannot get the camera back far enough to balance.
