What plug does it use and is it 110V or 240V ?

First, know that all of the products we sell comply with North American/U.S. electrical standards. While some items we sell feature universal power supplies/adapters with 100-240 V AC 50/60 Hz, a relevant adapter will be needed to connect into electrical outlets in your country/region. This particular product might come with a universal power adapter but 1., that is not specified by the manufacturer and 2. this is intended to be sold in the U.S. market only.

    question

Does it work for linux system, say Ubuntu 16?
    Asked by: Veydan W.
I have an 8TB Seagate Expansion (USB3) external drive and it works well with Linux after I reformatted it to use ext4 instead of NTFS. (Yes, you "can" write to NTFS from Linux using the ntfs-3g package, but unless you plan to use the drive for both Windows and Linux, it is easier to reformat the drive to a "native" Linux file-system.)

    Compatible with a Mac?
    Asked by: Jerry
It's formatted as an ExFat Drive from the manufacturer which SHOULD mount on your mac computer. For some reason it would not mount on my 2018 Mac Mini- or on my mac air laptop. I had to reformat it in disc utility which is easy but strange that I had to go through this process.

Does anybody know if I could run two of these drives in a RAID1? Thanks.
    Asked by: Philippe
This could be done with a software RAID but it is not recommended doing a RAID with drives outside of the "same box"

I'd like to back up my video files then disconnect the drive until I need to back up new files. Can I leave this drive powered down for extended periods of time? Thanks.
    Asked by: Bob
"Do you use THIS seagate 16TB drive for the use you described? Copied below: Yes. That's exactly what we do - - video files and many other types. We have a series of drives (on and off premises), including several of this manufacture and type, that are powered only for a few days during back-up and update operations."

Can it be formatted for use with MacOS?
    Asked by: Larry
when you format it with mac os does this apply? It was writtten by a user above: Be careful with WD My Book drives. They use hardware encryption and it doesn't matter if it's set on or off. If the enclosure dies before the hard drive, you cannot simply use another enclosure to retrieve your files. You will have to go through WD and will usually be charged an exorbitant amount for data retrieval. Most people recommend getting WD Elements drives
