Think Tank Photo Shape Shifter 15 V2.0 Reviews

Ok but needs fine tuning

Pros: light weight; love the easy access front pockets and the generously sized water bottle side pocket Cons: the interior design for cameras and lenses. When I'm unpacking and packing my gear quickly it's clumsy and awkward. At one point one of my camera bodies tumbled out of the bag when I unzipped the bag.

Great Bag But..

I bought this bag when I moved to LA. I thought it would be great for my travels back home to Chicago. It was perfect for it. I could carry on my camera stuff and yet keep it low profile so people don’t know I have so much money in camera stuff on my back. It fits a computer very well. The quality is great. But here is what I don’t like. The pockets are fixed. And honestly they are designed for big lenses. You put something like a 50mm 1.8 cannon lens in there and it moves in its pouch. I don’t like how I have to take the lens off my camera to put it in there safely. Also if you have a 15in laptop it’s very hard to put your charger in the laptop pouch. You have to throw it into the part with all your camera stuff and have it loose. This bag is amazing for traveling light bringing three lenses that you want. But if your out running and gunning and want quick easy access and to bring more then three lenses this bag will not work for you. Most the pouches are deep but super tight on the outside of the bag. Fitting charges and flashes is also complicated since the inside is fixed three pouches. I hope this review helps you in some way.

Its a very compatible and spacious bag for my photojournalism needs. I highly recommend it to photographers. The best feature is that you can reduce the thickness of the bag and the way the weight gets distributed because of the extra zipper.

Exactly what I needed!  A slim laptop bag or camera bag.

This backpack has high quality zippers and materials that can compress into a 3-inch deep slim backpack while having the super powers to expand for camera gear.  This is an awesome alternative to the typical velcro-divider-insert camera bags.  Especially when you do not need to bring the entire kitchen sink.  Another great feature is that you can attach the bag to a luggage handle.

I'm always on the quest for the perfect backpack (as I'm sure lots of others are), and while I know there isn't a perfect backpack for every situation, this one is great for most. I've bought/used/sold many backpacks, slings, messengers - but this one is a keeper. I just used this for a weekend roadtrip to an airshow and it worked perfectly. Fit my D500 + 150-600mm lens attached on one side, and my 11-20mm f/2.8 & 50-100mm f/1.8 on the other side. During the airshow when I had the camera body & 150-600mm w/hood out, I could shape-shift the bag to minimize the depth when wandering thru crowds. I wore the bag for many hours, and it was very comfortable even with everything inside. Side pocket for water bottle comes in handy when needed, and great that I can remove when I don't. One thing this bag isn't great for is being able to access/change lenses, etc. without putting the bag down. Thankfully, I also have a Mindshift Gear Backlight 26L which I use for backpacking or when I need to carry even more stuff (speedlights, etc.). This bag replaces a Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20L - which is a great bag with side access from both sides (and also looks great), but isn't as comfortable and doesn't minimize depth like this Shape Shifter does. I went back and forth between getting the Shape Shifter 15 v2.0 vs. 17 2.0, but this 15 is plenty big for my needs now. I guess if/when I decide to go to multiple camera bodies for events, I will have to buy the 17 as well...

Thought I'd love it...

To start, the ThinkTank quality is excellent and its features for some photographers needing versatility could be great. For me on the other hand as a part time wedding photographer coming from a pelican 1510 case; I soon remembered why I sold my old Lowepro AW Trekker pack. The pain of switching gear and hassle of placing my pack down on the ground and getting dirty on your straps soon all returned to my memory. With the Shapeshifter I realized how much I disliked the difficulty of opening up and closing up quickly the lens compartment area quickly on the go. Soon I saw that using the pack and placing it on the ground that I had an open backpack split down the middle with one half of the pack with the lenses weighing the back straps side falling to the ground and the other back half stuffed with my speedlights bending in the opposite direction. It could hold quite a lot, but just didn't make it easier to grab on the go. Perhaps this pack is for a photographer needing to move his gear from one place to another, but doesn't need the pack during the actual photoshoot. I really wanted to love this bag especially for it's ability to zip up and compress the pack if needed, but that feature is really only helpful if you only want to use the laptop compartment without any other main camera gear. So I returned the Shapeshifter it for its cousin, a Mindshift Backlight 26l for the same excellent quality, but more for its main feature of quick rear access at the back to get to my gear quickly. Couldn't be more happier, I love my Mindshift Backlight 26l!

I have my Nikon Z6 with Nikon leses14-30 and 70-200 2.8, Kase filter system and all the accessories like the extra butteries and rechargers and more, all packed in it and be able to close it (bit snag) to 3 thick. Did not take it for the trip yet, will see how it will perform in the real action.

question

Can the neoprene camera wrap be removed and replaced with an additional lens pocket ?
Asked by: Cheryl
The neoprene wraps and pockets are fixed and built into the bag itself. They cannot be removed without permanently cutting them out.

question

Hi can this bag fit 2x mirrorless (sony a7r2 body no grip) canon 50mm f1.2, sigma 85mm and canon 16-35 f4IS lens? Together with a 15 macbook pro retina? Can u try it out?
Asked by: Low S.
This bag can handle much bigger cameras and lenses then the ones you are speaking of so you will have no problem. It is designed to hold the a 15 computer as well. Sorry, but we are not able to pull from stock all those items and do a test fit. ThinkTank is a superb bag maker, I have several of their products, all work perfectly.

question

Could I put a Nikon D750 with Sigma 35 1.4 lens attached into the foldable pocket or would I need to remove the lens?
Asked by: Ken
I can answer with how the folding flap works to hold the camera in place; The bottom flap folds up first over the camera. The second and third flap folds over left and right. The top side is open and faces the bottom of the lens pouch positioned above. In experimenting for your question, a vertical configuration will work, but I would consider it a, In a pinch . The designed configuration secures your cam from shifting around. The versatility and utility of this bag is proving to be an asset in the field.
