Audio-Technica Consumer ATH-ANC40BT overview

  • 1Description

The ATH-ANC40BT In-Ear Headphones from Audio-Technica combine active noise cancellation with Bluetooth wireless technology, and are intended to work with smartphones, tablets, laptops or in-flight entertainment systems. Lightweight (at 1.2 oz) with an around-the-neck design, they are ideal for travel and for listening to music in noisy environments, without dangling cords.

Featuring Audio-Technica's QuietPoint active noise-cancelling technology which reduces environmental noise by up to 90%, aptX audio codec which wirelessly delivers accurate sound by transmitting the music's full bandwidth, and large 13.5mm drivers, these headphones offer a superior listening experience free from distractions, for up to 8 hours on a full charge (using Bluetooth and noise cancellation).

Other features include an in-line mic and controls which let you operate hands-free, wirelessly answering/ending calls, controlling music playback, and adjusting volume. The unit can connect to two Bluetooth wireless devices simultaneously and remembers up to eight devices.

The ATH-ANC40BT comes with a detachable audio cable with 1/8" stereo mini-plug for wired use when the battery has lost charge or for operation in Bluetooth-free zones (e.g., in airplanes or hospitals). Also included are four pairs of silicone eartips, a USB charging cable, an airplane adapter, and a protective pouch.

    Audio-Technica Consumer ATH-ANC40BT reviews

    ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from A disappointment for the price My fault for not having done more research or having read enough reviews first, however, I hope to save you some time and expense: I typically love Audio Technica's products, but this product is not their strength. The biggest complaint is the very audible, constant digital static caused by the noise-cancelling feature. I've now compared / tested these against the Bose and Phiaton equivalents and both brands leave this AT model in the dust. The earbud fit was also very uncomfortable for me when wearing more than a couple hours and having to toggle seemingly simple controls on the neck collar was surprisingly counterintuitive.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compact headphone nose cancelling design Good points - comfortable and well designed earbud unit, with right length for earphone cabling. Sound is good and Bluetooth pairs fairly easily. However there is no options for noise cancelling frequency range although it works fairly well cancelling background noise on buses and trains. Not so good is the idea to share the micro-USB port for charging and also the corded connection for audio. It is not possible for customers to buy a cheaper or different length cable to connect the unit to the phone or audio device from any electronic store. It should have a standard connector like the ANC 7 unit. Cable from earbud to the main control loop /battery unit could be a little stronger. Audio Technica could also have included a moulded zip carry case so that the black cable do not easily go AWOL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use these all day... fantastic! I have read reviews about the comfort and fit of the ear buds, but I don't think they are using the correct tip for their ears. I was having issues at first with them falling out, so I bumped up the size of the silicon ear bud tip. Now they fit comfortable without any issues. I seamlessly jump between phone calls, music, and GPS when I drive. Built in audio controls and noise cancelling functions are where it is at. As a graphic designer, I rely on my music to push me through the days sometimes. These are the best delivery of that music I have had in a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected I had to write a review to offset the somewhat negative reviews on this site. I am somewhat of a headphone geek and my income allows me to purchase headphones that intrigue me or look like they will fill a niche. I currently own about 25 headphones of various types and prices. In this case I was looking for some transporatble BT headphones that I can use at work or while traveling and that are noise cancelling. I own the (non-BT) Bose QC-15 over ear and the QC-20 in-ear noise cancelling headphones. I will say outright that these ATH headphones don't have the superb noise cancelling or isolating ability of either type of Bose. The noise cancelling on these is good for sounds like jet engines, trains, or loud fans. They do not isolate as much as the Bose QC-20s which means you can hear other higher frequency sounds like voices fairly easily. This is not necessarily a bad thing in most scenarios since you may not want to be completely isolated from the world (and it could be dangerous). If you want better isolation and noise cancelling, then the Bose is a better bet. However, in my opinion the sound quality on this headphone set is better than the Bose. It does not have tons of bass but it is clean and tight. The mids are ok and the highs are sparkling. Overall it sounds less processed than the Bose and that is a feat considering that the Bose is not Bluetooth. The Bluetooth itself has worked well on my LG G3 phone and my Nexus 7 tablet, both on the latest Android Marshmallow release. I have it paired to both and it connects to both every time I turn it on without issues (something I can't say about my favorite sounding BT headphones, the On-Ear Phillips Fidelio M2BTs). I can listen to music from the Nexus but if a phone call comes in it stops the music on the nexus and takes the call from the LG. Likewise, all the controls work perfectly with both devices. Overall, for the price you are not going to get anything much better that meets all these features. Yes, it is light and feels a little flimsy, but I have not had quality issue in the two months I have used it. The only thing that concerns me is the thin cables that go to the earbuds. They tend to get tangled up when not in use and there is no good place to place them so I keep the headphones in the pouch that came with them because I don't want to accidentally have the earbuds get tangled up on something and broken when I carry it in my backpack. Finally, I want to commend AT for including a manual that has useful information and does not look like something that was written in Chinese and translated using Google Translate, like many recent manuals that I have seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like this product, it works! I have been using Ear Buds and Noise Canceling Headsets for years. These are the first wireless ear buds that I have tried and they are comfortable, light weight and have very good noise canceling. I work in a very noisy environment, on a drilling rig, and I have used these instead of ear plugs with great success (in a safe area for electronics).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for what I wanted it to do This is a fairly decent set of noise canceling wireless in ear headphones. I don't prefer the in ear headphone for serious music listening but for audio books in the car they're great. A full set of wrap around headphones would not be appropriate for the car since they would cancel out too much of the road noise and be unsafe. With the in ear style just enough road noise is canceled to make listening to voice only completely adequate.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Left earphone stopped working Left earphone stopped working just after a year, used probably 30 times solely for air travel purposes. 1 month before that, started to have problem charging the unit fully, as the red charging light will turn off after a few minutes of charging indicating 'full charge' which was obviously not the case. The problem resolved with change of charging cable (which was working perfectly fine for other devices). Expected much solid build and quality. Good noise cancelling and battery life. However big mark off for the let down in quality.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Spotty performance, Nice noise cancelling I have used these earbuds for about seven months. Sometimes I have had spotty audio performance-(sometimes failing for no reason, tapping it lightly temporarily fixes it), but, at other times, they have worked flawlessly, so i can't tell what the problem is. The sound is good but does not live up to the m50x-(not a fair comparison, i know). The noise cancelling is good and i really like it. I cannot say that things will be the same you, and to be honest i expect earbuds to break fairly quickly, just not that quickly. Magnus
