Paired for their reach and versatility, the FUJIFILM XF 50-140mm f/2.8 and XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 Lenses Kit from B&H includes the two telephoto zoom lenses prized for their performance, weather sealing, and range.

FUJIFILM XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens

A telephoto zoom designed for use in trying conditions, the FUJIFILM XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR is a weather-sealed lens spanning the popular 76-213mm equivalent focal length range and featuring a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. Built for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless digital cameras, this fast zoom further distinguishes itself with a sophisticated design, highly effective optical image stabilization system, and a Triple Linear Motor AF system for refined focusing performance.

In regards to the optical design, this lens incorporates five extra-low dispersion elements and one Super ED element, which reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color accuracy. Additionally, a Nano-GI coating has also been applied to elements to alter the refractive index between elements, to minimize surface reflections, and to prevent lens flare and ghosting. Additionally a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when working with selective focus techniques.

Flexible telephoto zoom is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and offers a 76-213mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and excels when working in difficult lighting conditions.
Five extra-low dispersion elements and one Super ED element are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Nano-GI (Gradient Index) coating has been applied to lens elements and alters the refractive index between the glass and air in order to better suppress lens flare and ghosting for diagonal incident light.
An HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) coating has been applied to the entire surface of each element for controlling ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color accuracy.
A Triple Linear Motor autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
Complemented by an enhanced gyro sensor and unique series of algorithms, the optical stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to enable sharper imaging when working with longer focal lengths or slower shutter speeds.
The lens body incorporates 20 distinct weather seals to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contribute to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.
A tripod collar is included for well-balanced mounting and shooting when working from a tripod or monopod.
Compatible with optional XF 1.4x TC WR and XF 2x TC WR teleconverters.

Exceeded My Expectations

I purchased the Fuji 55-200 several years ago and have always been very happy with its performance. It's compact, light, has great image quality, and makes for an affordable easy-to-carry tele-zoom for travel and general use. Recently I decided to try backyard bird photography and the 55-200 did ok, but lacked reach and can't be used with a teleconverter. I tried the 100-400 but found it had some autofocus issues when moving from faraway subjects to closer subjects. The 70-300 has been difficult to find, so I decided to try the 50-140. By itself, it doesn't solve the reach problem - in fact, I'm technically losing on the long end - but the difference in reach between these two lenses is smaller than the numbers would suggest. Being able to shoot at f/2.8 at even zoomed in all the way gives me more than a one full stop advantage in terms of light-gathering compared to the 55-200. Even though I may have to crop a bit more with the 50-140, the sharpness I've gained from being able to use a faster shutter speed combined with the noticeably better OIS has given me sharper, clearer, more usable images. The AF is also noticeably faster and very, very accurate. The penalties compared to the 55-200 are of course cost, weight, and size, but compared to the cost and weight of a full-frame 70-200 f/2.8 lens, it's still manageable and affordable, and it balances very well on my X-H1 with the grip. I didn't expect to see much of a difference based on the numbers and most reviews I've seen as the 55-200 really is an outstanding lens, but in the real world, the 50-140 is proving to be a significant step up. I'm looking forward to seeing how it pairs with the 1.4x TC soon.

Love this lens. It's very well built, it's sharp, focuses quickly and quietly. This lens and the 16-55mm F/2.8 are my two favorite to go. Also, it is a great duet for travel.

A good solid lens

I've only had this lens out a couple of times, but so far I like it. It's sharp, even at 2.8, and focuses quickly and quietly. This is a well made lens, solid as a tank, and zooms in and out smoothly. Being an f2.8 allows for semi-low light situations, but it really doesn't do well indoors because it requires cranking the ISO up, which adds noise. I removed the tripod collar to make it more portable and because I don't think that I'll ever use it with a tripod. It's a heavy lens, but I like the solid feel of it. I may adjust my rating after I use it a bit more, but so far I like it and plan to use it for photographing landscapes, outdoor sports like tennis and pickleball, and outdoor portraits.

Great Lens with Minor Issues

Generally great image quality and build quality. Improvements are needed in making the tripod collar attachment more robust, as well as making the lens shade less cheap feeling.

I like this lens

This review is based on a single, but full day of shooting in natural light conditions. The first thing I noticed is the heft of the lens; it was heavier than I thought it would be, which is a good thing because so much of Fuji equipment tends to be more plastic feeling and perhaps not as durable as some of the Canon or Nikon equipment I've used over the years. I felt like the quality of the images was not quite as good as those I shot on the same day as a 70 to 200mm Canon lens with a Canon 5D, but the compactness of the lens and the XPro2 body make it an attractive package, especially when traveling and not wanting to lug heavy equipment. It gave up ground in lower-light situations, but bright conditions it was ideal. Most of all, I enjoyed using it and then setup has sparked my interest in photography in ways I haven't experienced in many years. It's worth the investment. Not the best lens on the market, but for the price I felt it was well worth it.

Sharp and fast. Autofocus works very well. Not really a macro, but works well for closeups. Very pleased so far.

Does anyone know which way the focus works on the XF lenses? Does it pull closer to the right like canon lenses or is it the opposite like Nikon, and some Sony lenses?
Asked by: Patrick
You rotate the lens' focusing ring to the left to reduce the focus distance, and rotate the focusing ring to the right to increase the focus distance out to infinity. However, you may go into the menu and go to BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > FOCUS RING to reverse the direction of rotation of the focus ring.
