ASUS GTX 1060 overview

  • 1Description

Based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture and featuring a slightly overclocked core, the ASUS Dual OC GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

There are two DisplayPort 1.4 outputs in addition to two HDMI 2.0b outputs, and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1060 is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 1280 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.

For cooling, ASUS implemented dual Wing-Blade fans. The patented wing-blade design delivers maximum air flow and improved 105% static pressure over the heat sink while also operating quieter than reference cards.

VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
With CUDA, NVIDIA allows applications to hand off CPU-intensive tasks to the GPU. Your GPU is no longer just used for rendering graphics, but it can provide teraflops of floating point performance and accelerate application tasks, from real-time video rendering to fluid dynamics simulation. CUDA is used in many applications and games.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

    ASUS GTX 1060 reviews

Dual OC GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics Card is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome performance, overclock ability! Tried out an ASUS STRIX ROG 1060 first go around, was not as happy as I am with this card. I actually pulled a GPUMark of 11270 out of this bad boy with slight overclock enabled. Runs everything I throw at it in 1080p ULTRA/MAX settings. Goes nicely with my white NZXT 340 case I might add :) Also, the ASUS cards come with (2) HDMI ports, something I wish other makers would look into, works great for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from White and beautiful! Looks great in my black and white theme build with an Asus Prime Z270-A motherboard. Performs as expected for a GTX 1060. If your card is running its fans at 1000 RPM minimum all the time there is a BIOS update tool available at ASUS. The update enables 0 RPM on the fans when the card is just idling. Not that it is loud to begin with but it's nice to have the fans turn off when not needed. Runs fairly cool. Low 30's C at idle with fans at 0 RPM and low 70's under load with fans around 1700 RPM. Can't hear it over my CPU cooler. Would recommend it if a GTX 1060 is what you want and white color appeals to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good card so far Card has been good so far. Went with the Dual fan because I didn't feel like a 3 fan card was necessary for my purposes. It looks good, runs quiet, has a good warranty from Asus, and temps are low. I am getting near 100FPS in BF4 on Ultra/High settings. Excited to test it with BF1 when it releases. No complaints at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for all 1080 needs Unless you are playing on VR or 4K this 1060 will be flawless in all 1920x1080 applications. I love mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dual OC GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics Card A fine hardware addition to my well-built system which includes: Intel 4690k 3.50GHz Turbo Boost (3.90) Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU Cooler Kingston Red Fury 16 gigs of RAM 1600MHz DDR3 RAM Asus Essence STX 2 Sound Card D-Link Network Card DGE-530T 32-bit 100/1000 Mbps PCI Adapter Corsair HX 1000i 1000watt Platinum Full Modular ATX12V Power Supply Asus Z97-E LGA1150 Socket Motherboard Cooler Master Storm Sniper ATX Mid-Tower(Steel & ABS Plastic Construction) and the Asus Dual OC GTX 1060(6 gigs of VRAM) Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive Windows 7 Premium operating system This is my build and the Asus Dual OC GTX 1060 is a welcome addition to it. The Asus Dual OC GTX 1060 has twice the speed of the 960 GTX and the FPS in video games are double. I'm contented with its 1080P resolution output to my Panasonic 42 inch Plasma TV (2009 edition) I have a sense of pride in my own build, it may cost a little more but its better than a manufacturer's build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from White Tiger I cannot express how happy I am for choosing this video card for my first build. The fans are very quiet and high-end games like Crysis and Mass Effect runs very smoothly. I am a not so hardcore gamer and only enjoys playing games because of its graphics. My package came in sealed and nicely packed and legit. If you are doing a white themed build. This would be the perfect video card for you. (Aesthetic-wise)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I would not buy this product, would choose with 1050 or 1070 I bought this Graphics card and had a very qualified tech install. He had problems with the 1060 and found that many others have had problems. He did get it to work. It seems to work well. Apparently this model was replaced by the much more expensive 1070, which appears to install without a problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance exceeds price! An excellent graphics card that does everything I need it to and more. It can't be beat for the price. I bought this card as a gift for my young adult gamer son. He said to note he had issues installing it with Windows 10, but overcame the problem by installing Windows 7 and could not be happier with the performance.
