4.7GB DVD-R 16x White, High-Gloss Inkjet Hub Printable Discs (100-Pack, Tape Wrap) is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works - but not the JVC/Taiyo Yuden they replace These discs are not bad - certainly not worse than various other glossy inkjet-printable discs. However, they are not like the JVC/Taiyo Yuden brand they were meant to replace. In the past half a year there was talk about the Japanese company (the inventor of CD) shutting down disc production, and that it would be taken over by this CMC in Taiwan. It seemed that they were getting he equipment or at least know-how from them. However, these disc are not exactly like those. They do not absorb the ink fully, so if you rub it, it runs. When it comes out of the printer it can be done easily, and after about 24 hrs, with a stronger rub. Another issue is that if they are put into sleeves before at least 24 hrs. of drying, the clear window will stick to the label, and you have to put your hand in to separate it before you can pull the disc out. Also, the blacks are not as dark as JVC/TY. All in all, they're not bad; theyre better than certain other brands which had the edges peeling etc. Therefore I gave them three stars, but they are a far cry from JVC. It's a big shame; JVC did not have all these issues (the ink was absorbed very well into the glossy coating and could be put in a sleeve right away maybe it was a good idea to keep it out for some time to dry, however they wouldnt stick at all). So, hopefully something can be done about this. I see there are two other white inkjet hub-printable disc from CMC; one doesn't say 'high-gloss' and one says matte; I don't know if those are any better in terms of these issues. It would be very nice if they could bring back the original. If there are any suggestions, please post them! BTW, the 'silver (clear coating) CDs from CMC seem to be the exact same as JVC. It would be nice if they'd produce that coating for DVD.
