PreSonus PROGRESSION 3 DNLD overview

  • 1Description

Progression from PreSonus is notation software primarily aimed at composers working with guitar, bass, or drums, and delivers powerful playback using professional recorded samples from the likes of Neil Zaza, Victor Wooten, and Roy "Futureman" Wooten. Notes are easily entered using an interactive fretboard, keyboard, and drum pad. Chords can be chosen from a large chord library, or custom-created. Chords remain on the fretboard for repeated entry, and recently used chords can easily be recalled.

The software allows for composing in tablature or standard notation on a desktop, and transferring the composition to an iPad using Progression for iPad (a separate purchase) for additional editing and playback. For more advanced work, PreSonus Notion and Notion for iPad can seamlessly open Progression files. Other file transfer options include creating a PDF document, useful for teachers and students, transferring via ReWire, importing and exporting Standard MIDI Files and MusicXML files, exporting WAV files, and opening Arobas Guitar Pro tablature files (v. 3 to 5).

Capturing MIDI performances can be done in either real time or step time, and then viewed in the Sequencer Staff. The Sequencer Overlay presents the notation and MIDI performance data one on top of the other on the same staff. Customize each individual note's velocity, duration, start point, and end point using drag-and-drop editing. For precise values, double-click each note and enter in the numeric values as well.

Much like a digital audio workstation, the software features a built-in mixer with buses, panning, inserts, subgroups, and more. Audio can be processed using the built-in reverb, guitar-amp simulator, and PreSonus Native Effects EQ, Compressor, and Limiter plug-ins from PreSonus' Studio One DAW, and then automatically exported from individual parts or buses.
