Klark Teknik 1176KT overview

  • 1Description

The 1176-KT from Klark Teknik is a FET-style compressor closely modeled on the 1176LN, particularly the original D and E versions of this well-regarded signal processing unit. It features four selectable ratios, an attack knob, and a release knob; with this kind of compressor, the level of gain reduction is directly affected by how high you drive the input knob.

The unit gives you attack range of 25 to 760 microseconds, a release time range of 80 to 670 milliseconds, and selectable push button rations of 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 20:1. To answer a question surely on the mind of anyone familiar with the original 1176: Yes—this compressor offers all-button mode; you can achieve that characteristic smashing effect with this unit.

Differentiating this version from the classic 1176 are custom-engineered MIDAS input and output transformers, aiming to provide a pristine, discrete signal path. A vintage style VU meter is provides, giving you the option to monitor your gain reduction, or the output. In the various output modes, you have the choice of a reading of zero corresponding to +4, +6, or +8 dBm. This model accepts both XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs.

    Klark Teknik 1176KT reviews

    1176-KT FET-Style Single-Channel Compressor is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from THESE GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH UA1176 FOR 1/4TH THE PRICE I capture audio using a digital mixer and mix it on a 40-channel Soundcraft analog console. I like the sound of analog processing better than plug-ins. For years the UA1176 has been one of my favorite compressors for use in mixing. When Warm Audio came out with the WA76 I was an early adopter, sadly though those sound good they have been plagued with input attenuator problems. Enter the 1176-KT, I jumped on one right away (purchase from another dealer for a price higher than B&H). After two months with the KT I ordered a second one. Three months later I saw them here on B&H for an even lower price and bought two more. These KT compressors sound great, indistinguishable from the much more expensive UA1176 hardware. The Warm Audio pieces sound a little brighter than the either the UA or the KT models. All three are good but the KT gives me the sound and features I want for an incredible price. I was mixing with all four 1176-KT yesterday and loving the sound. If I needed another 1176 tomorrow I would be back here buying more from B&H. The build quality on these feels great. They don't use a wall-wart power supply like the Warm pieces do. The KT has both XLR and TRS I.O. which is great since all my snakes are TRS. There are no cons to the 1176-KT, just buy it. If you want an 1176 you've got a great new model to choose. Good music to all!
