MSI GTX 1060 overview

  • 1Description

With a slightly overclocked core and based on NVIDIA's Pascal architecture, the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GT OC Graphics Card provides major improvements in performance, memory bandwidth, and power efficiency over its predecessor, the high-performance Maxwell architecture. It also introduces innovative graphics features and technologies that redefine the computer as the platform for playing AAA games and taking full advantage of virtual reality via NVIDIA VRWorks.

The front panel of the card features a variety of outputs. There is a DisplayPort 1.4 output, an HDMI 2.0b output, and a DVI-D Dual-Link output. The GTX 1060 is not just about high-resolution gaming. Computationally intensive programs can utilize the GPU's 1280 cores to accelerate tasks using CUDA or other APIs.

For cooling, MSI implemented a dual fan cooler. The dual fans cover more of the heatsink to take away heat more efficiently.

VRWorks
VRWorks Graphics includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.

VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real-time, fully reflecting the size, shape, and material of the virtual world.

NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions -- whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water -- behave as if in the real world.
NVIDIA Ansel
With Ansel, gamers can compose the gameplay shots they want, pointing the camera in any direction and from any vantage point within a gaming world. They can capture screenshots at up to 32 times the screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real-time before taking the shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
CUDA
With CUDA, NVIDIA allows applications to hand off CPU-intensive tasks to the GPU. Your GPU is no longer just used for rendering graphics, but it can provide teraflops of floating point performance and accelerate application tasks, from real-time video rendering to fluid dynamics simulation. CUDA is used in many applications and games.
G-SYNC Ready
When used with a monitor that has G-SYNC hardware installed, the monitor's refresh rate will sync and lock with the graphics card's output frame rate. Establishing this sync removes tearing and stuttering which can result from conventional fixed screen refresh rates, especially important for gaming in stereoscopic 3D. An additional benefit of G-SYNC is reduced lag so gamers will benefit from the improved command response time as well.
NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0
Boosts the card's clock speed in real-time based on the target temperature. If the card is running below the set target temperature, GPU Boost 3.0 will increase the clock speed to improve performance. The target temperature can be reset depending on your preference so you can have the card run more quietly for everyday tasks and older games, and run at full tilt during intense high-resolution gaming sequences.

    MSI GTX 1060 reviews

GeForce GTX 1060 6GT OC Graphics Card is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Died when playing overwatch My card was pretty much DOA. when I first booted up my computer, my monitor wasn't working. I then had to reset my computer twice and it magically started working. You can use it to stream. It's silent and doesn't overheat at all. Graphical settings for my 1920x1200 monitor were all high/ultra. It started playing overwatch. After 2 hours, my computer shut down. I turned it back on and my monitor wasn't showing. Turns out my motherboard couldn't detect the card anymore. Fans ran but nothing else really did. I put in my old graphics card in. It worked. I reinstalled drivers and put my GTX 1060 back in. Nada. I sent out an RMA to MSI and it's painstakingly slow. The shipping cost me 24$ with extra insurance so I'm pretty upset about that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Card This card is amazing! Been running Witcher 3 at ultra at a constant 55-60 with good GPU temps. When playing CSGO (My settings are kept low-med as I have gotten used to it) or Street FIghter V (Max settings except post processing) this card's temp is around what my old card idled at. 45-55 C. Would recommend this card to anyone looking in the 200-300. Buying from B&H saved some money sense there is no sales tax if you are out of NY.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recommend this product for great graphs great cost I installed it myself and it is running as smooth as it could be. Not really noisy, even in games with high detail like Forza 6 in Ultra Quality the noise didn't change at all. Also did not warm up to a noticeable level. I will next try The Witcher 3 in more detail with lots of people to tell how it goes. That should at least warm it up!! Didn't try the VR yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Amazing i use this card for my Ultrawide display and it performs wonderfully doing around 70 fps on my Ultra on triple a titles including Battlefield 1 It came as soon as possible and for the price I'm extremely satisfied, it didn't come with a back plate and has no led lightning but these things are just for show and I'm all about performance and it did great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the best yet cheapest 1060 I use this product to do gaming and work It is very good although it is the cheapest GTX 1060, I easily overclocked the card with msi afterburner which was very good but still not the best, my only problem was that are only 3 ports and on a modern card that is very odd as other have 5 but with adapters i easily supported my 3 monitor set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Card! I really appreciate B&H because I was able to find the card I wanted at the price I wanted! Unfortunately the whole data mining thing has been going on, so prices were out the roof! But I found this card at an amazing price, which helped a lot! It's working great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This GPU is absolutely amazing. The GTX 1060 is the best graphics card I have ever purchased, and it works extremely well. It runs all modern games extremely well with no hitches whatsoever. If you are looking for a good card, this one should definitely be considered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good card for the price I am GIGABYTE fan , but this card for price includes two coolers , and impact in 6GB memory and same chip as other high priced 1060's , if You gaming or mining it can give good performance , but would be great if You not overclock .
