Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 AF Reviews
Rokinon has refused to fix major flaw in this lens for years

Huge flaw of this lens is that Rokinon stubbornly refuses to fix a gigantic bug, easy to address but they don't care, after getting nagged for years. This lens will not communicate the 14mm focal length over to your camera, even though it's an AF/active-mount lens. So for SteadyShot to work, and for EXIF data to populate correctly (for loading lens profiles, etc.), you have to spend wasteful/priceless minutes probably missing your shot, digging into the menus to manually set it, and then (remember to) switch back to automatic focal length recognition when you swap out the lens.
Best for this price

Its sharpness is a little weak, and the aperture is not that, but for this price, it is the best you can find!

14mm is a bit too wide, but with Sony a7III allowed you to zoom in x2 and x3 it's very convenient. image is very crisp. Distortion is acceptable.
Rokinon is cheap for a reason.ย Routinely the softest lens

I don't like this lens at all. I have found my Rokinon lenses to not be sharp, and the distortion of this lens screws up a lot of shots. Maybe I should stick with 16 instead of 14, but I needed some wider angle stuff, and this lens was NOT the answer to my solution. It is extremely soft and ruined some shots because it was a lot softer than what I could tell thru the LCD screen. I don't see a good reason to recommend this lens, maybe for real estate or pictures, but not video of any kind.
In my pictures, the LCD viewfinder showed her in red, meaning in focus while in manual. I can't use this. I wish I wouldn't have relied on breaking in the new lens for money shots like this.
When in autofocus, it is constantly focus hunting and ruins the video shot.
The second photo, it is a great still photo, but the video is where it looks distorted.
FWIW, the wedding before this it was good in 4K on a still tripod. That is why I left it a 2 star. But this is officially out of my camera bag.
Great Ultrawide with 3 downsides.

So I bought it for fun while walking around in NYC.ย It exceeded my expectations. Nice perspectives. Great autofocus and very sharp. Some people have been complaining about it being unsharp in the corners but my experience is that is just depth of field. Stuff in the corner being to close to you and out of focus. It is a bit different than usual when dealing with such an extreme wide angle.ย If you stop it down and increase the focal depth everything is pin sharp.ย
THREE DOWNSIDES:
1. No Manual/Auto focus button toggle switch. Hate that!
2. There is a strange distortion in the glass as seen while looking at grids or straight lines in ultra perspectives. I notice it in camera. But when I use lens correction in Lightroom that disapears so it has not really ever been a problem.ย
3. You cant put any filters on there. But that is just the way it is with this strange piece of glass. Has not really been a problem at all.ย
I would buy it again if I did not have a 16-35GM now and don not really use this anymore.
So far so good

Paired with a Sony A7. I've only taken this out shooting a few times and I am in love with the 14mm focal length. It captures so much in one frame which can be challenging. But it provides ample room for creativity. The lens is sharp and focuses quickly. A bit slow to focus when lighting conditions are not the greatest. The focus ring could use a little more dampening. It moves to freely and loosely in my opinion. Image quality is great, is there really a lens out there that's awful though? As for build quality, mine looks fine. No focusing issues like some other reviewers have mentioned. Perhaps I got lucky.

It works well, really like the extra wide angle I get from my 14mm. I have a Sony a9 and Sony A7rIII. It allows me, for a very reasonable price, to have one of my cameras as a fixed wide angle and the other flexible, with the 17-28mm f/2.8.
Very good optical quality
