Meade Instruments' compact StarNavigator NG 90mm f/13.9 GoTo Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope is ideal for users who want a portable yet powerful observation platform that is able to achieve high magnifications for detailed views of the moon and planets as well as the ability to reach out past our solar system to observe brighter deep-sky objects such as nebulae and galaxies. The Maksutov-Cassegrain design corrects off-axis aberrations like comas and chromatic aberration to produce images with true color rendition through the use of a front corrector plate with a convex meniscus lens, which not only eliminates the need for periodic collimation, but the nature of the lens requires a smaller secondary mirror which limits obstruction and increases contrast. The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical path results in a slower focal ratio and narrower field of view versus a similar Schmidt-Cassegrain, but the optical benefits makes this an ideal scope for both observation and astrophotography.

Driving the dual-axis DC servo motors in the single-arm fork mount is the AudioStar hand controller. This update to their iconic AutoStar enables quick and easy set up and alignment to get you observing faster, while offering guided tours and audio commentary on 500 of its over 30,000 objects in the internal database.

Built into the rear of the housing is a 2x Barlow lens plus a convenient flip mirror. When the mirror is up, use one of the provided eyepieces (or any 1.25" astronomical eyepiece) to view. With the mirror down, employ an imaging rig for astrophotography. When imaging, simply flip the mirror up between exposures to check tracking and make adjustments, then flip it down to continue imaging. Two eyepieces are included that produce 48x and 139x magnifications, and its single-speed internal focusing mechanism provides smooth and virtually vibration-free focusing. A full-sized adjustable-height aluminum tripod provides solid support for the mount and OTA while still being lightweight and portable.

Optical Performance
  • 90mm aperture
  • f/13.9 focal ratio
  • 1250mm focal length
  • Compact Maksutov-Cassegrain optical configuration
  • Multi-coated lenses reduce reflection to boost image brightness and contrast
  • Front convex meniscus lens corrects spherical and chromatic aberrations, and comas (off-axis aberration) across the entire field of view
  • Smaller secondary mirror versus Schmidt-Cassegrains reduces obstructions and increases contrast
  • Single-speed internal focuser
AudioStar Controller
  • 2-line, 18-character/line red LED display with 20-button red backlit user interface
  • 30,000+ object data base, flash updateable
  • Near and deep-sky objects, stars, constellations, comets, asteroids, and Messier and SAO catalogs
  • Guided tours based on current location, date, and time
  • Astronomer Inside: Audio commentary about 500 objects including the Moon, planets, galaxies, and nebulae; information includes size, distance, temperature, and mythology
Mount and Tripod
  • Single fork-arm mount
  • Dual-axis DC servo motors provides smooth and accurate variable-rate tracking
  • Lightweight and durable aluminum tripod
  • Adjustable height with independent locking leg sections
  • Accessory tray
Internal Flip Mirror
  • 90° flip mechanism enables easy change of optical path
  • Built-in 2x Barlow lens effectively doubles the magnification of any eyepiece used, or ensures full-frame coverage of sensor when imaging
  • Mirror-Down: Straight-through light path to back for astrophotography or imaging with optional equipment
  • Mirror-Up: 1.25" eyepiece holder on top accepts most astronomical eyepieces
  • When used together for astroimaging, flip mirror up to check/adjust tracking then flip down for image capture
  • When up, the mirror acts as a star diagonal to correct image horizontally for use as a terrestrial spotting scope
Included Accessories
  • 9mm eyepiece produces 139x
  • 26mm eyepiece produces 48x
  • Red-dot finderscope makes alignment and spot-observation easy
  • Combination bubble level and compass aides in setup and alignment
