Meade Instruments' compact StarNavigator NG 125mm f/15 GoTo Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope is ideal for users who want a portable yet powerful observation platform that is able to achieve high magnifications for detailed views of the moon and planets as well as the ability to reach out past our solar system to observe brighter deep-sky objects such as nebulae and galaxies. The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical configuration is engineered with a convex meniscus lens which not only eliminates the need for periodic collimation, but the nature of the lens requires a smaller secondary mirror which limits obstruction and increases contrast. The Maksutov optical path results in a slower focal ratio and narrower field of view versus a similar Schmidt design, but the optical benefits makes this an ideal scope for planetary and double-star observation.
Driving the dual-axis DC servo motors in the single-arm fork mount is the AudioStar hand controller. This update to their iconic AutoStar enables quick and easy set up and alignment to get you observing faster, while offering guided tours and audio commentary on 500 of its over 30,000 objects in the internal database.
Meade provides a 90° erect-image diagonal for comfortable viewing when the scope is pointed at or near the zenith. The diagonal also corrects views horizontally and vertically for using the StarNavigator as a conventional terrestrial spotting scope. Two eyepieces are included that produce 73x and 211x magnifications, and its single-speed internal focusing mechanism provides smooth and virtually vibration-free focusing. A full-sized adjustable-height aluminum tripod provides solid support for the mount and OTA while still being lightweight and portable.
