    Opteka 650-1300mm f/8.0-16.0 reviews

650-1300mm f/8-16 Preset Telephoto Zoom Lens for T Mount (Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good budget super-telephoto. You get what you pay for. As far as super-telephoto lenses go, this is a steal. Of course, you get what you pay for. The lens has no contacts, meaning you'll retain minimal metadata when you want to export any pictures you took. Also, there is a surprising amount of distortion and chromatic aberration at the higher focal lengths. Overall, it's decent, and a cheap alternative for people looking to get into super-telephoto photography.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's a great bang for your buck - except... I bought this lens for the 2017 solar eclipse back in August due to it's low price and for the most part, decent reviews. Overall, it's a pretty nice lens, being under $200 for a whopping 1300mm (2600mm with the 2x converter). However, there are some problems: 1. First off, the pictures it takes are quite soft. I mean, you can't expect the highest quality of glass for this price, but it works if you're on a budet. (See my attached image) 2. The holding case doesn't fit the camera when the T-Mount is attached. I know this is an extremely petty concern, but it is quite annoying that in order to zip up the case you need to take off the T-Mount every time. 2. Extremely floppy. When fully extended or just extended in general, it is awfully difficult to find your target due to the give in the middle. You have to adjust to where you think the lens will come to rest and hope it works. 3. The holding case doesn't fit the camera when the T-Mount is attached. I know this is an extremely petty concern, but it is quite annoying that in order to zip up the case you need to take off the T-Mount every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is it perfect? No. Should you expect it be? Silly Question. There's a lot of misinformation about this lens out there. First, it does NOT sag in the middle. Mine is TIGHT stem to stern and I've had it over a month and it's been used daily. It's is more useful with 2x power at shorter focal lengths. It is VERY useful for the purpose for which it is designed. It is completely manual, which means photographers who only like AF and everything done for them will not care for it. I carbon date to when NOTHING was done for you and each mistake cost $$$$. In the time of post modern Digital photography I don't think I've found a better value for photographing EXTREMELY distant subjects. It's good for Astrophotography if you don't have the budget for a $4K Digiscoping rig. It can get you (only) MOST of the way there on a small fraction of the budget. If you use all the tools at your disposal (including cropping) you can do surprisingly well with it. But experimentation with your camera will be essential. It is the OPPOSITE of PBD. You'll learn a lot though. It will make you grateful for the VR/ED/AF Nikkors you take for granted. But if you like roughing it, and don't mind the work, surprisingly good images can be your reward. I stayed away from it for about 3 years. That was time wasted I wish I could had back. P.S. a First rate tripod isn't a maybe.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Powerful This is a pretty slick lens. It is lightweight and pretty powerful. With a little practice, you can easily shoot items that are out of normal range and they look like you are are up close. This is great when you can't make out text on signs, etc. I was able to zoom in on unreadable signs from my distance and make them out perfectly. My first outing yielded some really nice results!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for what you pay. Worth it. For what you pay not bad! Works good on my K-1 (Pentax). Build is solid. Lens is made by Samyang. CA is noticable, but with good light and a stable mount you can get good results. In daylight I was surprised at how clear the images where is I bumped the ISO to 1600 or 3200 handheld. Focus is very tedious, but the stiffness of the ring helps. Takes a careful eye and patience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed I was very pleasantly surprised with this lens. I am an amateur photographer and wanted to take some photos of the moon at night. I took it out the first night I received it, and was impressed with the sturdiness of the build as it is built of all metal. It fits to the camera with a converter and mounts to the tripod on the lens. The lens and camera fit strongly together and I do not have any fears of the camera falling off the lens while mounted. I look forward to using this lens more in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for beginners that want to explore economic options The body of the lens is made of metal. And it is a photographic lens at is most basic engineering. No internal motors, without a diaphragm, not stabilization technologies. It has a focusing ring that rotates only 90; this means that you don’t have a fine tuning focusing mechanism in a lens that could be difficult to use for users that used to the completely automated technology. Despite all this, it is a great purchase for a person that is exploring telephoto or digiscoping. The price is completely fair if you consider what would be the cost of a lens with similar focal length from other brands (and probably with more technology) or telescope or any other optical attachment for your camera. To use this lens you would need a very good stable tripod. Or for the beginner with less budget….I had the idea of using a tripod for the lens and a monopod (or a second tripod) for the camera. With a single tripod for the lens, your equipment will be safe but it will be hard to get a sharp picture (literally, a soft breeze is enough to give you a useless picture). The second support for the camera will offer you a steady double support for your already bulky setup but you will be satisfied with its AMAZING!!! magnification power. In the reviews on internet, some users complain about the low contrast or the chromatic aberration of the pictures. You probably are not going to take a National Geographic quality picture with this lens, probably (you never know). But for us mortals that don’t expend 40 hours/week taking professional pictures, this is a really interesting alternative. In my short experience as photographer, I can see that the pictures taken with this lens are a little pale but is nothing tragic that you can not correct with the most basic software to edit pictures. To correct the chromatic aberration you would need to buy a far more expensive lens with super high precision crystal elements (which are very expensive). To really see the chromatic aberration you need to be an expert and do a lot of zoom over the picture. Below you can see pictures I took that will give you an idea of the zoom you can get with this lens.
