Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Overview

Spanning a versatile and long-reaching focal length range, the Canon EF-mount SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 from Tamron is a 4x zoom covering telephoto to super telephoto perspectives. Complementing the long reach is an optimized optical design that features three low dispersion (LD) glass elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range. eBAND and BBAR coatings have also been applied to reduce ghosting and flare when working in strong, backlit lighting conditions.

Beyond its optical attributes, the G2 version of this lens also incorporates a FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism to permit locking the zoom position at any focal length position to prevent accidental zoom extension. Conventional zoom lock is also featured to prevent barrel extension during transport. Suiting handheld shooting situations, Vibration Compensation (VC) is a 4.5-stop-effective image stabilization mechanism that helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper results when working with slower shutter speeds. A ring-type Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) autofocus motor delivers notably quick and accurate focusing performance to suit working with fast-moving subjects, and full-time manual focus is also supported for fine-tuned control. Benefitting its use outdoors, the lens also features a moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element to guard against dirt, dust, moisture, and smudging from affecting image quality. The ergonomic and durable metal construction of the lens also incorporates textured focus and zoom rings, and a removable, rotating tripod collar with an Arca-type compatible foot is supplied to better enable shooting from tripods and monopods.

Spanning a versatile, long-reaching range, this tele to super-tele zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, and can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 240-960mm equivalent focal length range.
Three low dispersion elements are incorporated to nearly eliminate both axial and transverse chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Both eBAND and BBAR coatings have been applied to suppress ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast when working in backlit conditions.
VC image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 4.5 stops for more effective handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. Three separate VC modes are also available to suit various styles of shooting: Mode 1 is a balanced setting for general use, and promotes both a stabilized viewfinder image and stabilized results; Mode 2 is designed exclusively for panning movements; and Mode 3 is optimized to stabilize only during capture without stabilizing the viewfinder image.
A ring-type USD autofocus motor delivers quick and precise focusing performance to suit working with moving subjects. This motor also affords full-time manual focus control.
A FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism enables you to lock the zoom at any position in order to prevent unwanted zoom extension during use. A conventional zoom lock switch is also featured, which locks the zoom in place at the 150mm position to prevent zoom extension during transportation.
A sealed, moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
Durable metal barrel uses a curved, ergonomic shape for easy handling, and both the zoom and focus rings are textured for improved grip.
A removable rotating tripod collar features an Arca-type compatible foot and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.
An electromagnetic diaphragm is used for more precise and consistent exposure control, especially when shooting at high continuous shooting rates.
Compatible with optional TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.

Very Nice super telephoto lense 150-600mm

Goes with my Canon EOS T7i camera and works perfectly. Purchased this lense on a few factors, it fit my camera, the price was more affordable than other lenses of this type and the reviews convinced me this would be a good start. I am a amateur photographer so I am still learning. We just moved to the lake and this camera has done a wonderful job in capturing wildlife (geese, pelicans, seaglas, eagles) Couldn't be happier. Figured one day I would be able to purchase the more expensive camera's but so far, very happy with this one.

I Love It!

I've used this lens extensively on my Nikon D850. I've used it for sports (track & field) and wildlife. Additionally I've captured great longer distance landscape images (lighthouses) and it's been a pleasure to use. Sharp, fast focusing and fast for such a value priced long reach lens.

Love the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Canon

This is my second Tamron SP 150-600mm that I have purchased, my first lens was old and outdated however it was still a great lens but I wanted to upgrade to a newer model so I purchased the new Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Canon EF and I have no regrets the lens exceeds my expectations! I paired this new lens with a Cannon RP Camera and the Tamron 1.4 Teleconverter and I am well pleased with the results the only issue that I have found is that I had trouble with the auto focus with the lens extended fully however I learned that I could move the lens back a little and the auto focus would work and when I had the picture focused, I could lock on it with my camera and then extend the lens out fully and it would stay focused! I am starting to love this Lens it is just as good as some of the higher priced lens! Would I recommend absolutely!!!

I love this lens. I used to have the Nikon 200-500mm but wanted more reach for wildlife photography so I bought the Tamron & it hasn't disappointed.

Couldn't be happier with this lens

First and foremost, this lens opened up a world of possibilities for me. I've since elevated my wildlife photography to a previously unreachable level and I've only had this lens for 3 weeks. So far I have probably taken 1,000 images with a keeper rate of 10-20% per photo session. I was very torn on choosing this lens over the Sigma 150-600 but after using this lens I know I've made the right choice even though most reviews give the Sigma a slight edge in brightness and sharpness. However those factors aren't everything when determining what lens is right for you, and after weeks of research the Tamron 150-600 checked more boxes for me than the Sigma. I will offer full disclosure on this lens though, it is very very thirsty for light. With that said, don't be afraid to lower your aperture, increase your shutter speed, and set your ISO at a decent mid range. Find great lighting opportunities and you will nail some banger photos. Even if the light isn't so great I've managed to produce some great images through processing techniques. I've since bought the tap in console for Tamron lenses and I'm very excited to dial in the lens to my required taste. Happy shooting.

Not a great lens, but quite good for the price.

I purchased this to shoot my grandkid's sports activities and it does a good job of that. I've been impressed with the results. However, if you're going to use this for wildlife the sharpness of fur or feathers just isn't there. But then the Tamron doesn't have the price of a gold ring Nikon either.

Nice lens but heavy with image sharpness issues at high zoom

I like the lens and plan to keep it. But I did not appreciate these two issues when I bought it. (1) it is heavy and difficult to hand-hold in the field. (2) I failed to understand image quality issues with extreme telephoto lenses. This lens is good but at highest zoom you can see that it does not focus very sharply. If I could do things over again, I'd get a fixed telephoto. But having said that, I like the lens and will continue using it. However, no more zoom telephoto lenses for me.

I recently purchased this lens. I've been shooting hand held & on a tri-pod. Lots of practice but I'm loving it so far.. one issue so far. I find that turning the zoom in and out is very very stiff....should it be stiff or move freely?
Asked by: NANCY
It is common for the zoom ring to be more stiff with first using it. With regular use, the ring will be easier to turn.
