ZEISS LWZ.3 21-100mm T2.9 (ft) Reviews

It is parfocal

First and foremost, I want to correct the prior reviewer: I can confirm that this is a parfocal lens. I went back and forth with Zeiss support and a lens service outfit (Duclos Lenses in Van Nuys), and I learned the hard way that my camera was the problem. It turns out that all these new digital cinema cameras out there need routine maintenance (rental houses used to take care of this for us), including flange back adjustments. Once I had my camera properly calibrated, this Zeiss (and all other professional zooms) maintain focus as I zoom. So the LWZ.3 is parfocal. It is also pretty sharp and has a great image quality. The build quality is good. Breathing is virtually non existent. The only thing I find lacking about this lens are the flares, which are very plain. As with most tools, if you use them in the right way, then they’re wonderful. This lens is excellent for most applications. Just try not to flare it.

Hits a nice spot

For a Cine lens at this price obviously it won’t be perfect. Aperture is not fixed but it ramps smoothly in the zoom and is very useable. It has a nice sharpness and the size is quite decent for a variety of applications. I do think it should ship by default with shims, because it does not ship as a parafocal zoom, so I’m hoping that an adjustment will remedy that. One of the main reasons I purchased was for this use.

Once purchased, is it possible to switch lens mounts? I'd like to be able to move between PL and Canon RF
Asked by: Barry
Yes you will be able to switch to different lens mounts using the Interchange Mount System (IMS) kits for LWZ.3. But the choices are PL, EF (Canon), E(Sony), F(Nikon) or Micro 4/3rds. We do not have an RF option at the moment.

What thread size is the lens support? Do you have any recommendations adapting this to 15mm rods?
Asked by: Alexander
The thread present on the bottom of the ZEISS 21-100mm T2.9-3.9 Lightweight Zoom LWZ.3 Lens (E-Mount, Feet) BH #ZE21100EF is 3/8"-16. There are various 15mm lens supports to consider depending on budget, but a great option is the Bright Tangerine Morrissey 15mm LWS Lens Support with 3/8" Post BH #BRM15LS38P • MFR #B3010.0002. https://bhpho.to/2V1V2ZX
