BlackRapid Breathe Overview

The BlackRapid Backpack Breathe Camera Strap is designed to integrate with a backpack that features two shoulder straps so that it can be worn across a right or left-handed user's body, draped from one backpack shoulder strap to the opposing hip. A connected camera can then rest upside-down along the hip so that it can be quickly raised for use.

Aluminum-alloy snap-lock carabineers allow the Backpack Breathe to securely attach to any D-rings or loops along a backpack's shoulder strap that are typically above a backpack's sternum strap. The other end of the Backpack Breathe can then be clipped below the ladder-lock buckle on the backpack's other shoulder strap. This design allows right or left-handed photographers to sling their camera along either side of their backpack while adding a minimal 4.5 ounces to their load. Whether moving uphill or along a flat trail, the length of the Backpack Breathe can be easily adjusted by its own front D-ring and ladder-lock buckle. Spring-loaded bumper locks that can be slid up and down the length of this camera strap's nylon webbing make it especially easy to limit excess camera movement along the length of the Backpack Breathe.

To attach to a camera or a lens, the BlackRapid Backpack Breathe Camera Strap features a durable, brass and zinc-alloy CR-3 ConnectR locking carabiner. An included BlackRapid FR-5 FastenR Breathe creates a connection point using a camera or lens's 1/4"-20 tripod mount. The FR-5 FastenR Breathe has a large, integrated D-ring for easy use with BlackRapid straps that utilize a CR-3 ConnectR.

The length of this strap is adjustable from 20 to 31.5" and its nylon webbing measures up to 1.0" wide. A nylon pouch is included for storage and transport, as well as a plastic BlackRapid Lockstar Breathe Carabiner Protector, which is compatible with BlackRapid straps that feature a CR-3 ConnectR locking carabiner. By folding over a CR-3 ConnectR, the Lockstar Breathe prevents unintentional user contact with a CR-3 ConnectR that could cause it to accidentally unlock. Additionally, it helps to block the metal surface of a CR-3 ConnectR from scratching a connected camera or lens.

Super cool concept and execution. Great for hikes and snowshoes to make sure my camera is always quickly accessible. Using with the Z7ii + 400 4.5 and it's great.

This is a very well made strap. I feel my camera very safe when attached to this strap. I recently connect it to a Sony 200-600mm with a teleconverter and full frame Sony camera. It was very comfortable to use.

The Black Rapid products in general are always outstanding. This one is ideal for when you are hiking and shooting with a backpack or doing street photography around the city. It works the same as the stand alone straps they make which are very comfortable and functional. It is easy to un-hitch too, when you have to take off or get into your pack. Highly recommend this strap. I bought one for my wife and she loves it too. She can be pretty fussy about her gear.

Carrying Camera with Comfort

I love the BlackRapid straps. I've used the Sport, Double Breathe, and wrist strap for a few years now. I was wondering how I'd be able to use my strap while carrying a backpack. Luckily, BlackRapid has me covered. The Backpack Breathe looked like the perfect solution. My first attempts at fastening the strap to my new backpack were a bit disappointing. The strap was a little short. A test connection here and there finally fit. I can now easily carry my camera and use it with ease, just like when using my Sport strap when not carrying a backpack.

A nice strap. Choose your backpack wisely.

Good build quality. The strap is easy to use. The biggest challenge is setting up backpack, (anchor points) so that the camera hangs where you want it to hang. Also, it takes a bit getting used to because you need to take the strap off to be able to remove your backpack which can cause you to do some juggling.

Great strap to use when walking around or hiking with a back pack. I will, however, replace the carabiniers at both ends with a lockable type for added security.

Love this strap, it really take a load off. I use it with my D850 and 200-500, it's amazing the difference I feel and I'm confident my gear is safe

question

Does the Breathe have to be detached from the bottom of the camera for use with a tripod?
Asked by: andrew s.
As is, the BlackRapid Backpack Breathe Camera Strap would need to be removed from the camera in order to use the camera on a tripod. Though, there are accessories that can be purchased in order to keep the fastener on the camera while using a tripod if you have a tripod that uses the Manfrotto 200PL-14 plate or Arca Swiss plate.

I don’t have an illustration, but I just used the strap on a 10 day hiking and photography trip to the 4 corners region. It worked great and I was able to hike, climb ladders and have great access to my camera (heavy full frame Nikon). The strap was very comfortable.
