I have purchased 3 of these for my stores. They are easy to set up and view in store. The remote viewing app IVMS-4200 needs improvement. I have other remote viewing apps and they work much better. It takes forever to come up and glitches

I've accumulated different cameras from different manufacturers for years assuming they would be easy to install on IP NVRs and for the most part, they were until I got some newer 4K cameras and then it became a chore. Three different NVR's later I find one that works with all my cameras. The only real hassle, if I can call it that, was to have to go to the router as I hooked up each camera to see what address it was set to. Once I got it to recognize the cameras, the included software made it easy to get them all working. I have a simple 5 camera, 24hr recorded, home setup without all the motion detection or other options set, so it was pretty easy to get up and running. It works.

Got this unit after returning the NXI Acusense model, which was a disappointment. br Configuration was a breeze, but it must be done locally. That is, hook up the monitor and USB mouse directly. After that you can disconnect the monitor and the mouse and manage the unit headless by iVMS-4200 software installed on a PC or Mac on the local network. Or remotely, but to do that, the configuration is a bit more complex. I use it with a mix of genuine US Hikvision cameras and cheap ONVIF-compatible cameras. I do not use the cloud, because I configured remote access. br Going from QNAP NAS to the Hikvision NVR was like a night and day experience. This is a rock solid NVR. Feature-rich, configurable, full time recording without skipping a beat, remote access and playback though the Hik Connect mobile app are just a few things to mention. The Hik Connect mobile app is also very good and easy to use, unlike most other Chinese-made apps that are buggy, filled with spelling errors in the UI. And YES, unlike the NXI Acusense model, the firmware in this model is regularly updated and email notifications work properly. br The unit is well built but it is loud. Unless you are are hearing impaired you will not be able to keep it in a living room, bedroom, or media room. It works for me because I keep it in a utility room. br All in all, I highly recommend this model for home or business use.

I bought this to replace a Truvision 4-Channel NVR. I am definitely not a novice but it was easy for me to setup and plug n play with Hikvision cameras. This is a nice upgrade with a good price.

Recommend - Easier To Use, More Capabilities

I had an older/cheaper Hikvision 1TB NVR that didn't have the latest software or capabilities. This unit is much easier to use, especially when you're looking for a specific event. Initial setup was a breeze. I took the older 1TB hard drive and installed into this unit. Instantly recognized it. What I don't like about it - and I've seen/read this from other users...the cooling fan is LOUD. Luckily my unit is in a utility room (washer/dryer) and the noise doesn't bother us. I did have a minor setup issue recognizing my newer Hikvision cameras - B&H technical got Hikvision USA on the phone with me. I didn't have the latest firmware loaded. New firmware fixed the issue. I also have the newest Hikvision WiFi doorbell connected to it. I highly recommend this unit if you're wanting to have the latest tech, reasonable costs, and a more capable NVR.

Great NVR - but noisy fan

I have had this NVR up and running now for over a week and it seems to be doing great. Easy to use and set up. My only issue at this point is the fan in the unit is a bit noisy and runs continuously. Will be checking to see if there are solutions for this.

Non Hikvision cameras can be use with "Smart Analysis" but data sheet shows up to 4 4MP are allowed however the PDF shows 4 8MP cameras. Which is it?

Some features might work when using other manufacturer cameras. Officially, Hikvision analytics are only supported between Hikvision products. If you are using a Hikvision product, then officially, it will work with up to a 12MP camera.

Yes, however you can do the initial set up on the NVR itself with a monitor attached, or if that is not possible you can download the Hikvision iVMS-4200 for Mac to do the set up.

Yes. Only I-Series NVR work with LPR (License Plate Recognition) cameras. You can also use them standalone, without a back-end device.

This NVR supports fisheye cameras such as the following. It's recommended to calculate out the incoming bandwidth based on the resolution and frames per second to be sure it can support the number of cameras you're looking to connect.
