Synology DS916+ reviews

DiskStation 32TB DS916+ 4-Bay NAS Server Kit (4 x 8TB) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast and Quiet Installation is amazingly easy! It literally took me less than 5 minutes to install all the drives and plug everything in. While the all-plastic parts makes the installation process ridiculously easy, I do wonder how long the parts will last for. I do a aluminum enclosure and drive bays would give a much better feeling of quality. For example, my Akitio external drive is all-metal, but the drives are just as easy to switch out. This was my first NAS, other than an Apple Time Capsule, and while it didn't take me that long to set it up, it wasn't totally straight forward either. I'll admit I found myself scouring the Synology website trying to figure out how to get started, with things like how to create a backup disk that will work with Time Machine. I'm sure it easy if you've set up a NAS before, but I don't know why they can provide some kind of setup assistant that makes it much easier for first time users. For example, when you first start it up, why doesn't it guide you to the control panel and walk you through how to set up a volume, which is the first thing you need to do before you can do anything else? Other than those minor things, this thing can do more than I'll probably ever use it for. However, I'm using it to back up a large raid drive, and I like having the peace of mind that should I ever run out of space, I can add an expansion unit to it.
