Sennheiser GSX 1000 overview

  • 1Description

The GSX 1000 Audio Amplifier from Sennheiser enhances the audio coming from your computer with a dedicated DAC chip to make it suitable for gaming environments. The amplifier connects to your Windows or Mac system via an included USB cable and creates 7.1 virtual surround sounds for your audio peripherals. Sennheiser has outfitted the GSX 1000 with three 3.5mm audio jacks so you can have your headset and speakers connected at the same time. To adjust sound levels, speaker focus, and EQ settings quickly, an LED touch display and an aluminum volume wheel are on board. Additionally, the touch panel lets you switch between headphones and speakers on the fly.

Gaming Audio
The GSX 1000 audio amplifier comes with a binaural rendering engine that features a 7.1 virtual surround algorithm for delivering simulated surround sounds. The GSX 1000 comes with enough jacks so you can have a headset and a pair of speakers connected at the same time.
Sound Settings on the Fly
Featuring a red LED-lit touch display and an aluminum volume wheel, the GSX 1000 lets you rapidly adjust sound on the fly. The red-on-black display dims down when not in use to cut down distractions, and brightens the instant it senses your hand is near. It allows you to adjust the Sidetone, which changes how loud your own voice sounds, and switch between your headset and speakers without unplugging cables.
Sound Quality
The GSX 1000 has been designed with a dedicated DAC chip that requires no additional drivers. The amplifier gives you precise control of both game and communication sounds, allowing for separate adjustment and USB inputs for each. Besides the range of EQ settings, it is possible to set Reverberation levels to change how the user feels in physical spaces of the game, and even increase the surround speakers for back and front speaker focus.

    Sennheiser GSX 1000 reviews

GSX 1000 Audio Amplifier is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound but too expensive Not much besides one usb cable to connect your device to your computer and of course your headphones/speakers to the amp. set windows playback speakers to 7.1 and you're done. the rest of the settings are on the amp itself. running the speaker test right away, with the 7.1 virtual surround enabled, i was fooled thinking it was playing from my speakers. wow! EXCELLENT virtual surround when playing wide open environment games like Call of Duty or Battlefield. NOT so great for when you need accurate positional audio for games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I find my Creative SBZ SBX sound card to be better with the positional audio. you can make minor adjustments to the audio for gaming/movie/music, reverb, headset/speaker, 2.0/7.1 and some presets. i did not test the mic settings for this. i often pressed one of the four corner presets by accident messing up what i had set for the amp. for $230, i was expecting something to blow everything out of the water. the sound quality and virtual surround sound were VERY good that met my expectations, but i was hoping the positional audio would be as well.. which it is not. i actually ended up returning this, as my sound card did better at the positional audio which is what i cared about most. sound quality of this amp is much better of course, but nothing that i would drop $230 for when it's just for gaming. If they manage to revise future iterations of this to include better positional audio, i'll give it another shot. the sound WAS that good. TL;DR: really good for wide/open world gaming, below average for competitive gaming where positional audio counts. great build quality, overpriced.
