Lensbaby Trio 28mm f/3.5 Overview

Don't waste time pulling a lens out of your bag or swapping optics with the Lensbaby Trio 28mm f/3.5 Lens. This pancake-style lens incorporates a rotating front mechanism allowing you to quickly select one of three different focus effects -Twist, Velvet, and Sweet- at a moment's notice. The Twist uses a Petzval-inspired design for a sharp center area surrounded by a swirl of twisty bokeh. Velvet has a dreamy central area with a soft focus look along with a soft glow. Sweet creates a sharp spot of focus in the center with a gradual fall-off to blur. All these can be carried without stuffing your bag with a variety of miscellaneous equipment.

Available here for Sony E-mount cameras, the Trio will provide a wide-angle perspective that is well-suited to street photography. Also, it has a fixed f/3.5 optic that ensures predictable looks in a variety of situations. All the optics are multi-coated for minimal flare and ghosting and a manual focusing ring is included for focusing anywhere from 8" to infinity. Additionally, users can attach filters using the front 46mm thread for even more creative control.

Fixed f/3.5 aperture helps create a predictable effect in a wide range of situations.
Rotating front dial with options for Twist, Velvet, and Sweet effects.
Twist effect uses a Petzval-inspired design for a central area of sharp focus surrounded by a swirl of twisting bokeh. This optic utilizes four glass elements in three groups.
Velvet effect creates a soft-focus effect with a dreamy center area with a delicate glow out to the edges.
Sweet effect offers a central spot of sharp focus surrounding by a gradual increase in blur.
Manual focusing ring that allows users to focus anywhere from 8" to infinity.
Multi-coating minimizes ghosting and flare.

I already had some other Lens Baby, but this one makes it a lot easier to swap between them. not the best build quality, but again, it's more of a fun toy.

I really enjoy Playing around with this little lens. Don't feel like it presents photos as indicated. Hard to know which lens you are shooting with unless you stop and review the lens. It's all good though, a fun lens to goof around with.

I got this primarily for the Twist, and figured I'd get 2 more effects for very little (plus it was 15% off). I love the ~40mm focal length so that was a bonus. So far I've taken it to a local park as well as shot some funky jazz band photos with it on my Fuji X-H1. After using it I realized that I like all 3 effects a lot, plus you can create even more interesting effects by dialing it in between two settings! Also, a MFD of a mere 8 is pretty dang good. It's not an everyday lens, but it's definitely one I keep in my bag for creativity.

If you want a different look to your images try this little lens. And complements to B&H for actually sending me the Sony E mount. 2 previous attempts with other vendors delivered first a micro 4/3 then a Fuji mount- and one of them sent from interstate Australia took as long as the B&H delivery (about 8 days). It would get 5 stars if it had a variable aperture rather than a fixed one

Im a pro photog and lately Ive been wanting g to get more creative with photography that will be for my own creative enjoyment. Using this in an R5 and it produces beautiful results. I think I may look into more Lensbaby lenses. I would like to note the build quality is very good. Please also remember to set your camera to release shutter without lens attached. This is a manual focus lens and the freedom to produce creative shots is solely in your hands.

The fact that the lens really is three-in-one, it's impressive and worth the cost. However I would honestly have been just as happy if not more so had the lens featured a singular optical effect at f2.8, 1.8 or 1.4. The lower F-stops would also allow the effect to be more pronounced (if so desired). But nevertheless it's nice to have an actual wide lensbaby.

Is this lens fit for Nikon F? If it is not suitable, is it possible to use adapter?

No, this is for Nikon Z-series cameras. There is likely no adapter that will work for Z-to-F due to the the flange focal distance of the Z-series lenses being smaller than the F-mount. F-to-Z works, but not the opposite.

There's some play in the lens due to the front of the lens moving relative to the axis of the barrel. Anyone else seen this problem?

That does happen sometimes. That is because a spring in the mount is not very tight. The lens will still work perfectly though and allow for great images. That type of movement happens with any lens of any manufacturer.

The Lensbaby Trio 28 Lens with Filter Kit for Canon RF has a fixed aperture of f/3.5 which cannot be changed or adjusted. The magnetic aperture rings used on other Lensbaby lenses are not compatible for use on the Lensbaby Trio 28 Lens with Filter Kit for Canon RF.

Unfortunately, this lens cannot fit the Canon EOS 90D, since that camera only uses the standard EF/EF-S mount.

The Lensbaby Trio 28mm f/3.5 Lens for Canon RF is a full frame lens so the Canon R5 does not have to be in crop mode.
