The f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult and low lighting conditions.
Three super-low dispersion elements help to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Two all-glass precision molded aspherical elements suppress spherical aberrations to minimize distortion and improve overall sharpness.
Multi-layered coating helps to alleviate lens flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus design affords a minimum focusing distance of 11".
Manual aperture ring can be de-clicked to support smooth, quiet aperture adjustment for cine applications.
Internal contacts relay distance and aperture information to the camera body to enable full support of in-camera focusing aids.
Printed depth of field and distance scales are featured on the lens barrel for pre-focusing and hyperfocal focusing techniques.
Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Tokina FiRIN 20mm f/2 MF Reviews

About the square lens hood.

Tokinas new Autofocus 20mm firin lens has a round tulip style hood, part# BH-623, that fits the manual 20mm firin perfectly. Since both lenses share identical optics there are no issues.

Perfect manual for video - no clicky iris

Great image with few wide angle shortcomings and artefacts and sexy video like lens hood - stick this on yer gimbal! Nice manual feel that works well for someone used to a proper video lens. Everything rotates the right way but shame the iris ring is where the focus ring should be. Muscle memory still catches me out... AS7ii does the focus assist zoom in when you touch the focus ring - it talks well to camera. Its $100 too expensive maybe.

WOW

WOW..again! Image quality that leaves one drooling. This lens is incredibly sharp from f2. I had to look at the exif data several times to check the aperture. The entire frame is tack sharp at f5.6-f8, however the central 90% of the frame is still tack sharp at f2..amazing glass. It controls contrast beautifully and renders an impressive image. The manual focus experience is exactly what it should be in a lens like this. 5 STARS ALL DAY LONG..Love it!!!

Tack Sharp wide angle lens

I love it! The lens is well built. It is very sharp and has very minimal distortion for a wide angle lens. What sweetens the deal is the fact that it's a full manual lens so photography becomes more challenging on my Sony A7ii When I say the lens is well built. I mean well built with the exception of click mechanism which can unintentionally rotate the manual focus ring causing a headache when shooting in low light. Then there's the hood that won't allow the lens cap to come off unless you take the hood off. Overall, I am very pleased with the output.

Incredible

Cannot understate this lens... performs beautifully optically, warm with nice color rendition, beautiful bokeh, sharp but not too sharp, and closed down gives a very great sun flare. I am in love with this lens for wide angle photography and cinematography. I really appreciate the lack of barrel distortion you would see with most other wide angles. I mean it has some but it's just the right amount for a wide of this quality. Manual focus is a charm and overall this is a fantastic buy you won't be disappointed.

Nice built but .....

Bought this lens for a month and very happy with the IQ and built quality.....nice job, Tokina. However, I had to complain the materials that used to build for this lens. The body is very easy to get scratch and those scratches are very significant. Understood the matte black finish is beautiful and eye catching, however, it seems not so scratch resistant. Just put together with my SONY 55 FE lens in my punch without any partition for separation, the Tokina got some scratches on the body but nothing on the SONY...... Hope Tokina can make changes to the materials in its next Firin lens...Sorry for my bad English.

Great on paper and build - Issues with QC

Lens fits all of my needs on paper, and many reviewers express wonders with this lens. My experience however was different in that both copies of the lens I purchased were defective to varying degrees. First copy had buggy corner sharpness and the focusing ring was significantly off from infinity  - not desirable  for astrophotography. Second copy had better focus ring but still had the corner issue in 2 of the corners. I could not get the sharpness to improve, well past F8, F10. Build quality feels great, a nice weight and by no means feels cheap. Love the toggle for clicky/non clicky focus ring. Think they are just luck of the draw in terms of quality of copy purchased. Hope this helps - I wouldnt shy away from the lens given the positive experiences of other reviewers, just wanted to give others interested in this lens a heads up that QC is not great.

Amazing lens hampered by poor QC.

If you've read any of the reviews then you know this lens is highly regarded. The MTF chart is impressive and so is the price, and I'm in the market for an astro lens so this seemed like the perfect deal. Now I firmly believe that after my experience with it that this is only the case if you get a good copy. Be aware that I tested my lens against a resolution chart as well as using it at infinity focus. On the 1st copy I received the corners were an absolute mess. Not one, but all 4. I've never received a lens like this before so I figured it must be a defective product. I sent it back for a replacement. To be clear, the corners on this initial copy suffered from extreme field curvature and didn't sharpen up until f/11 if you focused on the center. To get sharp corners I had to focus very close to the edge of the frame, but then the center suffered noticably. My 2nd copy was better but still had some issues. Only 1 corner was good from wide open. 1 corner was decent but acceptable. 2 corners were unacceptable with one being exceptionally bad and didn't sharpen up until f/11. Once again, this was using the center as a focus point. To get that one corner sharp meant sacrificing resolution across the rest of the frame. I briefly thought about keeping this copy but I ended up returning it. I don't expect perfect performance across the frame but I do expect at least an acceptable amount of softening. I may have gotten unlucky with my copies, the lens does get some high praise after all. However it's worth pointing out that other people have had similar experiences with this lens, including Phillip Reeve who runs a popular lens review website. Other than those hiccups, the lens performed very well. When the lens is sharp it's a razor. Build quality is nice as is the handling. Flare resistance could have been better but it's actually pretty good compared to Tokina's other lenses. I don't like the square hood, that would be my only complaint aside from the QC with the optics. -1.5 stars for the poor QC, -.5 stars for the square hood.

Does this work with the Sony a6400?
Asked by: Tory
Although I can’t see why it wouldn’t, the effective focal length will be about 30mm with the camera’s APS-C sensor. Of course it will still be a manual focus lens, which I prefer in 20mm landscape uses, but wouldn’t choose for general use at 30mm.
