Beyond its performance attributes, this lens is also characterized by its unique Lens Information Display, which clearly showcases focus distance, focal length, and stabilizer settings on a top-facing screen for easy recognition. Benefitting optical performance, the lens' construction utilizes one Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) element to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity, and, additionally, a nine-blade diaphragm is used to produce a pleasing bokeh quality for shallow depth of field imagery.

Telephoto zoom designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, this lens is also suitable for use with APS-C models where it provides a 112-480mm equivalent focal length range.
One UD element is featured in the optical design to noticeably reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and improved color fidelity.
Lens Information Display on the top of the lens barrel clearly highlights focusing distance, focal length, and Image Stabilizer amount.
NANO USM system utilizes both a ring type USM and an STM mechanism to realize quick and accurate focusing that is also smooth and near-silent to suit both photography and video applications. This focusing system also affords full-time manual focus control when working in the one-shot AF mode.
An Image Stabilizer compensates for up to four stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting when working in difficult lighting conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
A circular nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

This lens was an upgrade from the older version. This lens is really fast, images are crisp and definitely worth the upgrade.

Excellent lens when 600mm is too extreme for the mid range grouping

Fantastic Lens

Only L options in this zoom range are extremely heavy (and white). Not a fan of the colour or weight. Waited for this lens to be in stock and ordered. Used for a recent trip to Hawaii. Unbelievable picture quality and focus speed. Absolutely no noise during focus. Again, the quality and colour of the pictures are unreal. For the money, lower weight, and non stand out colour, this lens is worth every penny and then some. Truly impressed!

Great new 70-300 tele-zoom

Great all-around tele-zoom, and sharp. Not as bright to focus with as my 300 2.8, but it’s a lot smaller and lighter for everyday shots. A versatile addition to my gear. Easy to use, the fastest autofocus I’ve seen. No tripod collar, but this lens is so easy to handle, and with IS, it doesn’t need one. Bought this lens to supplement, not replace any other lenses, feel like I got a lot for the price.

Good upgrade

I bought this lens to upgrade from a kit 55-250mm aps-c lens. I have had this lens for a year now and like the extra reach, faster focus and that the front element is easier to clean. I don't use the digital display on the lens because I use it mostly for bird watching. The zoom lock is useful while hiking with lens hanging down.

Poor Quality Control at Canon

I purchased this lens for my birthday 12/2020. I had to send it back to B&H. They sent me another in Jan 2021 and had to send that one back. They sent me another in Feb2021 and had to send that back all because all brand new lenses had dust in the lens. B&H were great with returns and returning my money. The one fellow said wait for a new shipment, or get to Canon directly with the one new lens for them to clean. I decided I would wait. Purchase a refurbished one on Canon USA Nov 2021 and guess what it had dust in the lens. So I say what is going on with Canon? Plus refurbished, shouldn't the dust have been removed? I looked at another store for used and out of 14 lenses for sale only 4 had NO DUST IN THEM.(Listed in the description)
