MeFOTO RTAIRGRN overview

  • 1Description

The green RoadTrip Air Travel Tripod from MeFoto is a sturdy, lightweight, and compact aluminum alloy support designed for the modern enthusiast and smartphone photographer.

Extending to a maximum height of 61" and capable of supporting up to 13.2 lb, the RoadTrip Air is not all that different from its Classic series sibling—with one big difference—HyperLocks. The telescoping 5-section HyperLock design allows the user to set-up and break-down the tripod with speed and ease by simply turning the rubber foot in one direction to extend the leg and in the opposite direction to lock it at the desired length. This design also helps to reduce the tripod's overall weight down to a transportable 2.5 lb.

Appealing to both system camera users and smartphone photographers, the Air series comes equipped with a few features that many users will find both fashionable and functional. Starting off, the Air series features a color-matched Arca-type compatible ball head, which not only includes a color matched Arca-type plate, but is also capable of independent 360° pans—an uncommon feature on a ball head this compact. Secondly, the entire center column may be removed from the tripod and, using HyperLock technology, is capable of extending into a stand-alone selfie stick. A folding smartphone adapter is included for convenience as is a universal Bluetooth remote capable of triggering the camera on most smartphones. Lastly, MeFoto aims to make user manuals a thing of the past with new intuitive icons on the tripod's body. Each icon is placed at a point of interest or adjustment and details, in easy-to-understand pictograms, how to adjust the tripod for any shooting situation.

For those looking to use the RoadTrip Air for low-angle photos or on a table top, each one of the tripod's anodized aluminum legs can be spread independently down to a minimum height of 11.4". The 3-position leg angle stops allow the user to adjust the tripod's height to accommodate almost any shooting situation. Additionally, a removable spring-loaded hook is located in a recess at the bottom of the center column, allowing you to hang a variety of weighted objects to increase the tripod's overall stability.

As a travel tripod, the RoadTrip Air is designed to fold in an inverted style with the 3 legs collapsing upward around the center column. This design allows the RoadTrip to attain a compact folded length of just 11.4", which fits conveniently within the included soft carrying case.

HyperLock Leg Locks
The HyperLock design allows the user to set-up and break-down with a single knob.
Built-In Selfie Stick
The integrated Selfie Stick utilizes the ball head for positioning and includes a Smartphone adapter and Bluetooth remote.
Lightweight and Compact
Fits into luggage and won't weigh you down with a folded length of 11.4" and a weight of just 2.5 lb.
Simple Set-Up
User-friendly icons highlight points of adjustment on the tripod and make user manuals a thing of the past.
Dual Action Ball Head
Included ball head features a primary lock, separate 360° independent pan lock, and utilizes an industry standard Arca-type compatible quick release.

RoadTrip Air Travel Tripod (Green) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed So looking forward to using this super-lightweight tripod on upcoming trip abroad, but it won't be going with me :( In order to make it so light, the extendable legs do not have twist locks or clamps on them. They are to be rotated into a locked position. Wow! SO frustrating for me to try to get all twisted and locked in place, including the center post extension. By the time I do, the subject is no longer waiting for me to get my act together, or the weight of my camera causes collapse. Also, not stable enough for me if ground is not completely flat. Sadly, I am returning it. Will have to settle for a little heavier, yet stable choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent travel solution I have to confess that I love my Really Right Stuff carbon fiber tripod. However, for air travel and hiking it is a bit of a beast to carry around. I was looking for a compact solution and did not really have the funds to pursue another RRS option. This MeFOTO RoadTrip Air is a wonderful combination of form and function. It is wickedly compact, very solid and ready to go anywhere. I really like the expensive look of the Titanium finish, but it also comes in a rainbow of colors. I recently used it as a light stand for some impromptu family baby portraits. Very handy. Travels so well. You won't be disappointed with it's incredible value at this price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make Sure You Lock The Legs I bought the Mefoto Air RoadTrip because it was very light weight as well as a decent height. The Backpacker is lighter but not the height I wanted. Overall, I like the Mefoto Air RoadTrip. Pros: I like the light weight. I like the color choice. I like the quickness of the leg extension. The ball head works well as does the rotation screw and lock. Cons: One needs to take extra care to make sure the legs and center extension are Locked, otherwise the unit will collapse. Hopefully, it is just a learning thing. I am curious to see how well it holds up in the sandy, desert areas where I shoot. Will the sand mess with the leg locking mechanism? So far, I haven't encountered a problem but I haven't shot with it much either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full-featured tripod in a compact package The RoadTrip Air Travel Tripod is functional, well-designed and compact. This workhorse can support over 13 lbs of camera/video equipment in tabletop, full height, monopod or selfie modes. The RoadTrip features a removable quick-release plate that attaches to your camera; buy additional plates if you need to switch cameras during a photo/video shoot. The RoadTrip tripod has a bubble level on the top. It features a ball head that is easy to pan and tilt, and easy-to-use leg locks. It also comes with a nice nylon pouch with a shoulder strap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with this light tripod Few products deserve 5 stars in my view, and 4 stars is tops. B&H Photo gets 5 stars however. After carrying my Slik 212 for many years I finally decided to find a lighter and smaller tripod. After researching for some time this MePhoto Roadtrip Air became available in Fall 2016 and it looked like it fit my bill of a tripod I could carry around and would support my Canon 5D in the applications I often use a tripod for. I shoot mostly less than 5 feet high on stable ground. The Roadtrip suits the bill so far. I don't need to expand it instantly but want it to be stable once set up.. Check. Expanding the legs takes a little more time and care than other types, but the collapsed size and weight plus the handy carrying sack more than make up for that. I like the quick release and the ball head seems to lock without movement. Could have paid more for a lighter one, but this one is no problem to carry and pack in a suitcase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from for the price, its not good enough I really wanted to like this tripod but i just don't. The legs when opened, if you do not lock them super tight, they start collapsing. The panning, I cant seem to get this thing to lock tightly, it just keeps going around and around, therefore I have to be completely careful to not touch anything when taking a photo otherwise the camera will pan side to side when you don't want it to. And for this price, its just to expense to deal with all these problems. However, it is small and light, and holds my Sony A7ii very well. Now I need to go back to searching for a better travel tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very stable tripod in a small package I just tried this out on a Nikon D750 with the 24-120 mm lens - a fairly heavy set up and it's very stable without any weight attached to it. However it does get unstable when you extend the center column all the way up; It's rock solid up to 45 inches in height, still very stable up to 51 inches but any higher then it gets wobbly. It's well manufactured and does not feel cheap. The ball joint is very solid, it doesn't slip under the weight of the camera. Everything else operates as easily as shown in the B&H video so I won't review any of that. I did not try the remote blue tooth shutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Packs tiny! VERY sturdy! Recommend Wow! What a powerhouse product! The details do not do this justice as it packs to 11! It is very lightweight but also VERY sturdy. The ability to quickly set the height to a lot of different levels is great. I LOVE the ball top so I can quickly rotate if I am taking shots of people water skiing or other needs where you want max flexibilitybut stability. The cost was high but I read some other reviews and took the plunge. I do not regret this purchase! There is a quick release plate that comes with the unit so you do not have to purchase an additional one unles you have multiple cameras. I have not tried the selfie stick but I think it is great they included that. The size, once compacted FITS into my camera bag! I purchased the titanium color and it is very attractive. This is a very well made product.
