FUJIFILM GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR Reviews

disappointing

I am a big fan of the GFX series and its lenses. This one is a low cost low quality glass and the photos show that. Unfortunately, other than a suspiciously low price, which is still too high, there isn't anything in the make and model to indicate it's not the premium series until you get it, attach it to the camera and start photographing. At least in the Sony there are clear marking to indicate what family the lens belongs to. I'd return it if I could but I think I unfortunately threw the box away.

Love it

Not much experience with it yet, thanks to COVID-19 but my test shots look great. So far so good.

Great all-purpose lens! I think they should have made a f/2.0 version of this with a higher build quality, but it is a very well made lens. Love the images that come from this one. Really beautiful!

Sharp, small, light, affordable.

Of all the GF lenses I have owned or tried I keep coming back to this one for many shots. The focal length happens to fall into the range I tend to use often and its easier to carry around than many of the other GF lenses. I've used the GF 50mm f/3.5 and liked it but the low magnification (.1X compared to .17X) and smaller (slower) aperture with its associated depth of field characteristics were a deal breaker as I enjoy close-ups of small objects with substantial subject separation. The shallow depth of field qualities of the GF 63mm are pretty decent with nice bokeh and excellent sharpness. Autofocus is reasonably quick though noisier and slower than the GF 50mm. Plenty fast enough and the noise is not really a problem. I also prefer the longer focal length. I take a lot of aircraft photos and at least for aircraft such as WW II and modern jet fighters as with people, they tend to look a bit more flattering at this focal length (50mm eq) compared to 40mm eq of the GF 50mm. Personal opinion of course. It might not be as glamorous as the GF 110mm f/2 but an excellent and useful lens, a good first choice.

Very nice lens especially for the price. Only got it recently but the resolution is great and the lens is manageable.

I never expected to get a prime lens at this focal length. I went to my local camera store to check out the XF 150-600, and happened to test drive a GFX 50SII with this lens attached. The lens is loud when focusing, and not very fast to focus. But it has a lot of character. I love the images I get with this. My setup previous to this was a GFX 50R w/45-100. As you'd imagine, this lens creates a much lighter setup, and I use this much more than my 45-100. It's just fun to use. Bought this with the current rebates, and wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again.

great lens, slow focus

to be expected for larger lenses on larger system, but focus is just slower on this system compared to sony emount system (no surprise) other than that the external focus movement catches on my finger every once in a while. Great lens though. Just nitpicking.

Is this lens autofocus?
Asked by: Greg Ross
Yes, it is. It does not use Fuji's newer "linear motors," which are a bit quicker and quieter, but the motors here are still fairly quiet. It is not internal focusing, however, and the front element will move in and out as it focuses.
