Ooma Telo 2 Reviews

Works great, much better than alternatives

I've been in a hybrid environment with my cable provider for years, still buying phone services from them. When I decided to finally cut the cord I started with Magic Jack because it was cheaper. It also had significant issues. So I bought Ooma and couldn't be happier. Everything just works. Sound quality is excellent.

Faulty product exchanged 4 new

Shipped quickly from BH. We followed all set up instructions and... nothing. Trouble shoot wired connection, firewall settings, lots of resetting and still nothing (hours). Called Ooma customer service, spent another hour doing resetting while on phone, still not working. They decided to send a replacement unit, took a few days. Plugged the new one in and it worked fine. If it doesn't work right away I suggest calling ooma customer service right away (not online chat). The unit we got looked like newer packaging with a different font and images, the one from BH looked 'dated'.

Updated Ooma box

I had the first-gen box, worked great for years till it died and wouldn't power on. The new box has a MUCH improve material on the top. Like a hard plastic, the old box turned to goo. The speaker in the new model is not as good as the old model (not as loud). The top light can't be turned off on the new box and they dropped the best item, Send to voice mail button. Overall, it still works great, just wish you could kill the blue glow and that it still had the send to voice mail button, then it would be even better. I still highly recommend the unit.

Glad I Made the Switch

We always preferred to have a home line, for various convenience reasons (calling 800 numbers, random phone number requirements for store rewards cards and just to have a central phone). Recently I decided to drop my television and phone plan, and keep just an Internet sub, so I needed an alternative to keep that convenient phone line. I decided, after a bunch of web searches, that OOMA seemed to have everything I needed, and I am happy to say it has no failed me yet. If you want a phone or other VOIP line, without wanting to tether yourself to a phone company, don't hesitate to go the OOMA route.

Good value for Ooma Telo VoIP with $50 credit

Excellent clarity of voice

speaker in base  unit failed after 16 months

By Jeanne

I am sorry to say the OOMA company failed miserably to address the product failure. The base unit speaker failed after 16 months (4 months out of warranty period) and so I could not hear my voicemail messages. I called OOMA, they confirmed that was what had failed, and refused to replace the unit. It is poor quality if it could barely last out the warranty, and is unrepairable. It is very poor customer service to refuse to even offer a discounted unit to me, who WAS a loyla customer.

Works great! $50 credit is an unexpected bonus

We would have made the purchase even without the credit. This is a great product. Works as advertised. VOIP is proven tech.

Installation not so smooth but all ends well

By Mark

The installation was not as simple for me as the description suggests (my error in connections, then I did not do reboots of all devices (modem, router, tell) properly, we have 3 phones in old house so had to follow some wiring to figure out where/how to connect). The trouble shooting section of manual said that the router might need to be rebooted but not specify exactly state of each device for reboot sequence. After several hours of incorrect sequence, I found suggestion in blog to turn all (modem, router, Telo off, then turn modem on until it was fully up, then router until fully on, then Telo. The Telo may take a considerable amount of time to come up if it is downloading updates. The number porting process went smoothly and faster than stated (from AT&T). The quality of sound is ok. Hopefully, with the Premium service the number of robocalls will decrease, but don't know yet.

I needed to send touch tone commands to a remote freeze alarm connected to a generation one Ooma Telo. Didn’t work. Dialing OUT it could do; hearing a touchtone reply, gen one couldn’t. Can Telo _second_ generation accept a DTMF signal?
Asked by: Peter
While the Telo 2 is compatible with inbound DTMF tones, often DTMF tones may not get transmitted at the proper levels when accessing some systems such as conference call services or standalone automation devices.

Can i transfer my current landline number to telo?
Asked by: Naga
In a word - yes. There is a fee for the transfer and it takes a little time - like a few weeks. It would be done through Ooma in this case. Be sure not to cancel your old service until the transfer is complete. You can't transfer a number you don't have.

The only difference with the original Ooma Telo and the Telo two is the appearance on the outside. The features, and connections are all the same.
