MrStarGuy SGFT043 Overview

  • 1Description

Use Mr. Star Guy's 125-155mm Adjustable Objective White Light Solar Filter to adapt your nighttime refractor telescope to safely view the sun, and on camera lenses without front filter threads or when conventional screw-on filters are unavailable. Outfitted with three thumbscrews for a secure and centered fit, this filter is designed to fit over the entire objective bell so for the correct fit simply measure the outside diameter of the bell — including hardware like retaining rings and screw heads — and choose the size that matches the measurement with some extra room. This model is made to fit objective bells measuring 125-155mm (4.921-6.102").

EN 1836:2005 + A1:2007 certified for safe direct solar viewing, the filter blocks greater than 99.99% of the intense visible white light from the sun plus 100% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation. The filter is made of a durable acrylic resin that delivers high-contrast images of the Sun with a neutral color balance revealing the Sun in white, as opposed to the more common red or blue seen when viewing through other solar filters, which restricts bands of the visual spectrum and inhibits clear viewing. The filter housing is made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy with a scratch-resistant anodized finish.

    MrStarGuy SGFT043 Reviews

Adjustable Objective White Light Solar Filter (125-155mm OD) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from ADJUSTABLE OBJECTIVE SOLAR FILTER I had previously ordered a mylar filter which I had to send back because it was scratched. When I received this filter as an exchange, frankly, I was not impressed at all. The filter looks like a piece of foil paper and it has wrinkles. However, after reading the enclosed literature I felt a bit better and besides I had no time for another return. I was able to successfully photograph the eclipse and when I compared my pictures with my friend's (he had a mylar filter) mine were remarkably sharper and cleaner. However, since this filter renders a true color, the sun is pure white and not reddish like most other filters render. I am very satisfied with the results and will keep this filter for the next eclipse (2019)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For The Money I am putting this on the Nikkor 500mm F4 auto focus lens with doubler and it fits great. Goes over the front element. It turns the sun into a white or gray dot depending on exposure, so this is what I was looking for. I was worried about sharpness but it seems to be sharp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good image quality, so-so manufacturing quality For $89 I would have expected a little better product quality. The aluminum frame has a couple of small dents, the thumb screws are somewhat flimsy and the foil is not glued straight onto the edge of the frame, so it has ripples. BUT: it does the job nicely. I got a super-crisp image, great resolution of even tiny sunspots, and details of the moon's edge surface during the seconds before totality. Using it on a 4.5 Newtonian scope BTW. If it wasn't for the little blemishes I would give it best rating, this way it is 4/5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy again and recommend. Easy to install and use. I did a sunrise today and playing with setting to get ready for the eclipse. Very very happy with this product. Using LR4 to crop and adjust exposure and blacks to bring out some details. This was on a handheld 500mm lens, so a tripod the image will be much sharper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter for solar and eclipse viewing! I bought this filter to fit over the objective end of my 200mm/f2 lens. It worked great! Well built construction, The thumbscrews make it easy to install and take off during totality. It produced sharp, pleasing images. Sunspots were easily visible. I would recommend this for anyone needing a large aperture solar filter for telescopes or camera lenses.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not fit my 154.5mm lense. Advertised as adjustable to 155mm this did not fit my 154.5mm lense. We had to create a workaround by putting the filter on backward - using the lense hood to provide support around it and then fashion a way to secure it to the lense hood. In the end, it worked but gave me some very anxious moments when I first realized the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from yes well built...need to be careful and remember the wrinkles will disappear with heat form sun, so not problems there.......not sure what to do with until next eclipse
