Achieve a unique audio experience with the black MartinLogan ElectroMotion ESL X Floorstanding Speaker. It uses an electrostatic transducer to produce high-range and mid-range audio frequencies, and has two 8" woofers with a down-facing bass reflex port for enhanced bass. This speaker will handle 20 to 400W of power and is therefore compatible with most home theater and stereo systems.

CLS XStat Transducer
CLS (Curvilinear Line Source) technology enables construction of electrostatic panels as cylindrical sections. Their gentle horizontal curvature helps solve the problem of obtaining good high-frequency dispersion from a large radiating surface without compromising overall sound quality or reliability.
Dipolar Radiation Pattern
A key attribute of the ElectroMotion ESL X is its naturally dipolar radiation pattern. The EM-ESL X radiates sound with equal intensity from the front and back of its diaphragm, but the outputs are in opposite phase. As a result, sound waves rippling out toward the sides meet at the speaker's edge and cancel. That and the relatively large size of the electrostatic panel cause output at the sides to be low relative to that of a conventional loudspeaker, which, in turn, minimizes side-wall reflections that tend to muddle sonic detail and stereo imaging. While the reduction in output to the sides contributes to the clarity for which electrostats are known, the energy reflected off the wall behind the speaker opens up and deepens the sound.
Enhanced Bass Integration
To blend audio output from the high- and mid-frequency electrostatic panel to the low-frequency dual woofer system, the ElectroMotion ESL X features a Vojtko topology filter utilizing an air-core coil and low-DCR steel laminate inductors, polyester film capacitors in series, and low-DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel.
Dual-Woofer Design
The EM-ESL X features dual 8" doped-fiber cone woofers designed to optimize cone suspension and the magnetic flux field to produce big bass output with low distortion. Rigid and lightweight, the woofer's diaphragm eliminates cone flexure and maximizes response time.
Bi-Wire Binding Posts and Adjustable Footing
5-way bi-wire binding posts allow for secure wire connections. The EM-ESL X is supplied with 3/8-16 ETC spikes, which can be used to fine-tune vertical wave launch, enhance stability on thick carpets, and create tighter coupling between speaker and floor to provide a more detailed bass performance. Each spike is covered by removable rubber end caps if you prefer not to use spikes.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electrostatics are a game changer I've always heard that electrostatic speakers had a different level of quality sound production. Pairing them with an SVS SB-16 subwoofer to cover the lows and powered by a Peachtree Audio Nova300 (300wpc @ 8ohms), this is easily the best stereo system I've ever owned. The first time I demoed these, it was at a Magnolia demo center in Milpitas. They were the smaller version (ESLs) and powered by a standard Yamaha (125wpc @ 8ohms) AV receiver. The sound stage, depth, and clarity sent me to what felt like a live performance. I just closed my eyes and let the sound take me on a journey. I was listening to Seven Lions - Rush Over Me. The vocals were life-like. The highs and mids were some of the best I've ever heard under the $10K price range. If you're in the market to take a leap into electrostatics, a pair of these bad boys won't let you down. Just make sure you do your reading about room placement, acoustics, and power recommendations to make them really come alive.
