Canson Infinity Prestige Reviews

Smooth and Flat

I reviewed this paper a couple years ago because the 8.5x11 paper had a curl to it which would result in printhead strikes on my then Epson P800. The 13x19 paper did not have this curl. I like the paper so I thought I would try again and am pleased to report that the paper lies very flat and I have no problem loading it into my now Epson P900 printer. However, in order to load the correct Canson ICC profile for this paper (or papers other than Epson) and make printer calibration adjustments, you have to use the Epson Media Installer.

This paper has a nice warm base and give an overall warm look to the print. Reminiscent of ilford warm tone fiber base wet darkroom paper.

I ordered Canson Baryta Prestige paper by mistake and found it to be the most beautiful paper I have every printed with in nearly thirty years of printmaking. I was also surprised by the quality and ease of downloading the paper's printer profile for my Canon Pro-1000 from the Canson web site. Even tho' the Canson profile is canned, it performed better than some purchased custom profiles and even better than those made with i1Profiler.

This is excellent paper. It has good texture, which I value. It's better than the other Canson baryta papers. Frankly, I prefer the texture of the Moab Juniper Baryta. The Canson, however, seems whiter. Both are excellent. can't go wrong. High quality-- never a problem with any of the sheets.

I'm in love with this paper. Deep blacks, vivid colors, very sharp details. And a surface that isn't too glossy or flat. I can see I'll be reprinting a lot of my images on it.

Thicker and Less Expensive

Had been using Hahnemuhle 315 gsm Photo Rag Baryta for my exhibit prints in 17 by 39 foot rolls. The Canson Infinity Baryta Prestige is 340 gsm and comes in a 50 foot roll. The Canson is a thicker paper and saves me almost one dollar per foot for 17 inch wide paper rolls.

Will cutting this roll of 17" Baryta Prestige paper yield 17x25" sheets without curling, or manageable curling?
Asked by: Sean
Of course, but the amount of curling is dependent on the specific type of roll paper. Hence the question was specifically directed at those who have experience with rolls of Baryta Prestige. Also, if the curling isn't manageable, it won't even be possible to print on the paper without head strikes. Please don't delete my comment, it's a legitimate question.

Where can I find the recommended "media type" to set the printer driver to when printing on this paper (or any other for that matter) from Photoshop? I have a Canon Pro4100. I've downloaded and installed the *.icc profile as well as the *.am1x file. It's not on the box, it's not on the paperwork that came with the paper, and I am unable to find it on Canson's website.
