Acer N3160 overview

  • 1Description

The 14" 32GB Chromebook 14 from Acer runs on the Google Chrome operating system, which relies on Internet connectivity for full access to its features. While it may be a cloud-based computing solution, it's still capable of the daily functions you need in a portable computer. Equipped with a 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron N3160 quad-core processor and 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM, the Chromebook 14 enables you to efficiently multitask as well as quickly access frequently used files and programs.

Its 14" display, driven by integrated Intel HD graphics, has a 1920 x 1080 resolution for crisp and clear HD content with vivid colors. An HDMI port will let you connect an external display for enhanced multitasking and larger viewing. Like all Chromebooks, storage is limited, so it only has 32GB of eMMC storage. Should you need more space, you can connect additional storage devices using its USB ports. Otherwise, pair compatible wireless peripherals using Bluetooth 4.2. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, speakers, a microphone, a webcam, and a 3.5mm audio in and out combo jack.

Please note that in order to take full advantage of Chrome OS, you will need to be connected to the Internet.

HDR Webcam
With the built-in webcam, which supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), people you video chat with will be able to see you with greater clarity and detail.
All-Day Battery
Capable of lasting up to 12 hours of use, the Chromebook 14 is here to keep up with you, wherever you may be.
Aluminum Alloy Housing
Built with an all-aluminum-alloy housing, the Chromebook 14 is both stylish and durable.
Chrome OS
Using Linux as a base, Google designed Chrome OS to work exclusively with web applications. The user interface takes a minimalist approach, which greatly resembles the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome OS was built for people who spend a majority, if not all, of their time on the computer connected to the Internet. The only application that comes installed on Chrome OS is a special Google Chrome web browser with an integrated media player and file manager. All other applications are accessed by adding apps from the Google Chrome Web Store. Since Chrome OS relies entirely on Google's web apps and access to Google's services, it is highly recommended that you connect to the Internet to optimize your Chrome OS experience.

    Acer N3160 reviews

    14" 32GB Chromebook 14 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome slim design I liked the reviews I read but once the aluminium Chromebook arrived, I could really appreciate how slim and light it was. I had the unit running in minutes and the battery life is outstanding. Best feature is leaving it in standby, you just open the cover and within a second you can connect to the web. So quick to look something up, even faster than my iPad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So pleased with mine that I purchased one as a gift This is a very nice unit. Speed, display image quality, battery life, size & weight all are very good.Display quality really makes this unit stand out. I have had one for 6 months. I am very happy with it's overall performance and form factor. We recently bought one for our grandson for graduation. He too is very pleased. Our son-in-law is an IT guy. He is impressed. I like the chrome books for general browsing. The fact that you can just shut the lid, come back a day later, flip it open and be running in seconds is great. If you do forget and let the battery expire. When back on power you can simply restore all your prior open windows and tabs with one click. I also like cloud document storage (Google Docs) of things I clip and paste from websites.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Chromebook at an Awesome Price This is the third brand of Chromebook in my household. My first Chromebook (Toshiba Chromebook 2) I gave to my wife which means I had the opportunity to buy a new one for myself. I chose this Chromebook for a few reasons. First, my 10 year has an Acer that has been very good to her. She uses it for school and tends to be a bit rough with it. It has stood the test of time. Second, the 14 size is perfect for me because it's not too big nor too small. Last, I like the all metal construction. Here are a few more points: Pro: All metal design Awesome sound Outstanding screen resolution Great Battery Life Despite other reviews, I like the keyboard When closing it, the hinges are strong and close smoothly. Cons: The wifi reception is lacking...big time. When I compare the reception next to my Toshiba Chromebook, my daughters 2 year old Acer Chromebook and this one, the reception measures half as strong. My other two Chromebooks register between 80-85% connection strength in a given location from my router. This one barely registers 45% however it doesn't seem to hinder connectivity speeds. If your wifi signal is not really strong, this Chromebook could pose problems. I would definitely recommend this Chromebook to anyone, especially for the price. On top of the quality of the Chromebook, B&H service and shipping time is incredible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Chromebook. Good value This is a very good chrome book. It connected with my wifi in seconds without a problem. The screen is a good size. They didn't skimp on keyboard size so it's comfortable to use. It's not terribly heavy, but it's not feather light like the MacBook Air or some Ultrabooks. But it's light enough to easily transport in a carry case or backpack. I haven't asked it to do a lot of heavy lifting, but it browses the web and streams videos without problems. Works seamlessly with Google apps. The brushed metal case is stylish. Overall it works very well. The built-in camera seems serviceable, but I haven't tried a video chat with it yet. USB 3.0 ports and a standard HDMI port are very good features. The battery life seems good. It's rated for something like 12 hours, but I think it's more like 8-10. Still, it has good battery life. The only negative I have is that it doesn't scroll 100% smoothly, and that might be a RAM issue, but it's a very small and almost unnoticeable problem. I have no negative comments about this Chromebook. I feel I got a very value for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for online school work Made this purchase for my daughter to use to finish HS since she only had a few credits to graduate early. It works great and I like that I can expand the memory if she needs it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sound issues right out of the box Anyone else hear crackling when listening to music? Almost like the speakers are blown. Also having issues with slow browsing. Wondering if I should return it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow-learning process The machine seems fine, although my Chromebook learning ability is slower than a nearly full hard drive. A printed owner's manual would be great.
