ZEISS Victory SF 8x42 Overview

Designed for birders and nature enthusiasts, the 8x42 Victory SF T* Binoculars from ZEISS provide an immersive observational experience by combining exceptional optics and a wide field of view in a lightweight and durable housing. Extra-low dispersion fluoride lenses, fully multi-coated optics, and phase-corrected prisms work together to create images that are clear and bright without distortion across the entire field of view. Colors are accurately represented with high contrast and resolution. The binoculars' wide 64° apparent angle of view provides expansive views, while the exceptionally short 5' close-focus distance ensures you won't miss anything.

The optical precision starts with SCHOTT Ultra-FL extra-low dispersion (ED) fluoride (FL) lenses that virtually eliminate distortion and chromatic aberration while increasing contrast and color fidelity. The Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms are coated with ZEISS' P* phase-correcting coatings to limit light loss and increase color fidelity and contrast. All of the optics are fully multi-coated with ZEISS' anti-reflection T* coatings. These greatly reduce light loss and maximize light transmission to create bright and clear images. A seven-lens eyepiece system uses high-transmission glass and field flatteners to correct for spherical aberrations to allow for pinpoint focusing across the entire field of view.

This SF version of the Victory binoculars feature the Smart Focus system. Unlike conventional focusing wheels that require users to turn the knobs as many as 2.5 times to transition from the minimum to the maximum focus distance, the SF system only requires 1.8 turns. This means faster and easier changes of your subjects without sacrificing focus precision. The binoculars are designed with ergonomic balance to reduce the feel of the weight in the hand, which reduces user fatigue for comfortable viewing during long observation sessions.

The housing is made from a lightweight, durable, and strong magnesium alloy. A double-hinged, open-bridge design provides a larger surface area for gripping while reducing the overall weight even more. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed for waterproof and fogproof performance, giving them a waterproof rating to 400 mbar of pressure.

ZEISS Victory SF 8x42 Reviews

These are an extension of your eyes!

This is a bit of a circuitous review. I ordered 3 other pairs from B&H to trial first: Nikon Monarch M7, Vortex Razor HD and Leica Noctovid. All 8x42s. Nikon was nice but once I Iooked through the Razor I knew that was far superior and only a little more money (there was a special unadvertised price on the Razor), However, then I tried the Leica. The optics were absolutely stunning but I had a few issues. First these were discounted because they were in an open box. The focus wheel stuck in a weird place and eye cups were very hard to adjust. Also where the focus wheel is and how I hold my hands just did not mesh well. However I will reiterate that the optics were just unbelievable! So because I was just in love with the stellar optics I decided to try another of the alpha ones. I looked through a Swarovski a few years back and it did not seem to work to well with my eyes. So I ordered the Zeiss Victory SF T. Though they are slightly longer, the way they are balanced, the placement of the focus wheel and the overall ease of use are amazing. Optically they are just unbelievable. Perhaps not as much of a wow effect as the Leicas, but the ease of looking through these was unmatched! They really just feel like an extension of my eyes. Not only is the FOV fantastic but the depth of field stood out as well. I would be looking at one bird and realize that 8-10 feet behind it there was another bird almost completely in focus as well. I really liked the Razor and was thinking are the Zeiss really worth the extra money? But the other intangible aspect of the Zeiss the more I looked through them was that using them felt completely effortless. Almost like you are not really looking through binoculars but just that the world is magnified. I've been birding for 40 years and have used mid-range quality binoculars throughout. These glasses have brought my appreciation for subtle plumage variation and intricacies to a new level. Also B&H were absolutely fantastic to work with and very supportive and helpful! Thank you!

absolutely amazing!

there is really nothing I don't like about these Binos. The only hesitation I had before trying it out was its long length. But once I tried it in person it really wasn't an issue, given its fantastic ergonomics. It's also the lightest Bino of this class on the market.

My binoculars did not include a physical limited lifetime warranty document in the box. Is this because they offer lifetime warranty?
Asked by: Steven
Zeiss does not include a warranty card anymore. They automatically have a lifetime warranty. If you register the binoculars on the Zeiss website, you will also have a 5 year no fault warranty.
