Designed for birders and nature enthusiasts, the 10x42 Victory SF T* Binoculars from ZEISS provide an immersive observational experience by combining exceptional optics, a powerful magnification, and a wide field of view in a lightweight and durable housing. Extra-low dispersion fluoride lenses, fully multi-coated optics, and phase-corrected prisms work together to create images that are clear and bright without distortion across the entire field of view, while colors are accurately represented with high contrast and resolution. The binoculars' 10x magnification and wide 65° apparent angle of view provide expansive views, while the exceptionally short 5' close-focus distance enables you to make detailed observations of insects and small birds on flowers or feeders.

The optical precision starts with SCHOTT Ultra-FL extra-low dispersion (ED) fluoride (FL) lenses that virtually eliminate distortion and chromatic aberration while increasing contrast and color fidelity. The Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms are coated with ZEISS' P* phase-correcting coatings to limit light loss and increase color fidelity and contrast. All of the optics are fully multi-coated with ZEISS' anti-reflection T* coatings. These greatly reduce light loss and maximize light transmission to create bright and clear images. A seven-lens eyepiece system uses high-transmission glass and field flatteners to correct for spherical aberrations to allow for pinpoint focusing across the entire field of view.

This SF version of the Victory binoculars feature the Smart Focus system. Unlike conventional focusing wheels that require users to turn the knobs as many as 2.5 times to transition from the minimum to the maximum focus distance, the SF system only requires 1.8 turns. This means faster and easier changes of your subjects without sacrificing focus precision. The binoculars are designed with ergonomic balance to reduce the feel of the weight in the hand, which reduces user fatigue for comfortable viewing during long observation sessions.

The housing is made from a lightweight, durable, and strong magnesium alloy. A double-hinged, open-bridge design provides a larger surface area for gripping while reducing the overall weight even more. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed for water and fogproof performance, giving them a waterproof rating to 400 mbar of pressure.

ZEISS Victory SF 10x42 Reviews

Perfect, except for eyecups

Optically and ergonomically this binocular is perfect. They are sharper, more comfortable, and lighter than my previous 10x42 Victory and 10x42 Swaros. But, the eyecups keep falling off. I have owned a dozen binoculars over fifty years - Nikon, Swarovski, Bushnell, Mirador, and currently three Zeiss and a Vortex. I have never had an eyecup fall off any of them. Never. The eyecups have fallen off this binocular several times and have often been found loose. I called Zeiss and their rep Everett told me I was not tightening them enough. He told me to tighten them more and don't worry if they break, Zeiss will send new ones free. I tightened them as tight as I could, far tighter than I would deem safe, and tighter than I haver ever done on any other bin. They didn't break, but they still unscrew and fall off. I am going to call Zeiss again and tell them to send me some spares because one is eventually going to be lost.

Wow, these binoculars focus razor crisp on distant objects. I use them for hiking. I also bought the Zeiss Victory 10x25 for a lot less money which are lighter, but not as good. I like the balance, the feel, and the quality construction. If I could only own one pair of binoculars it would be the Zeiss Victory 10x42.

The best quality general purpose binocular on the market

The optical quality is second to none. Ergonomics are amazing, the difference is evident even when compared to other high-end binoculars from Zeiss. The binocular shake while glassing is so well dampened by the distribution of the weight towards the eye that for the 10x42 the image is less shaky than high-quality 8x42 binoculars. The field of view for this 10x is almost as wide as your average 8x binoculars and it focuses down to about 5 ft in front of you. The model is designed mainly for bird watching and nature observation, however, I use it for other purposes also (on a boat, for example) with no issues whatsoever. The image is highly corrected and flattened, but unlike other high-end binoculars, this one doesn't give me a headache or vertigo after I use them for a day. The 10x gives additional reach over the 8X with very little compromise in optical quality and I highly recommend the 10x42 over the 8x42, as the FOV is still plenty wide.

Ideal multi-purpose glasses

Superior design and optical performance combines with ease of use, great balance and handling. Added magnification enhances overall performance without offsets. There’s more than enough field of view for tracking and locating and weight has not been a factor.

Upgrade

I decided to upgrade my 35+ year old Zeiss 10X 40 binoculars. I had looked through other newer binoculars and found even the midrange binoculars giving my old ones a run for the money. I decided to see what the new Zeiss 10X42 had to offer. The weight and balance were a pleasant surprise. They pointed easier and better than the old ones. The focus knob was smooth and the right speed of turn to focus for me. Good brightness and great clarity. I think the greatest benefit for me was the close focus. So nice to focus on insects and critters that allow a closer approach. Very glad I made the purchase and no downsides or cons at all.

Worth the money
