Ricoh 910743 Overview

  • 1Description

A slim and stylish device for creating 360° spherical imagery, the blue Theta SC from Ricoh records both still images and Full HD 1080p30 video. The unique dual-lens design makes use of two 12MP 1/2.3" sensors which output 14.4MP stills and support a total sensitivity range from ISO 100 to 1600 for working in a broad variety of lighting conditions. Automated exposure control is available for both stills and video recording; however, manual exposure control can be used in photo mode for selecting shutter speeds up to 1/8000 of a second or down to one minute. Additionally, HDR Composite and Dynamic Range Compensation modes enable a broader dynamic range to better retain highlight and shadow detail, a self-timer mode can be used for creative selfies, and interval shooting is possible for making time-lapse sequences.

In addition to the imaging capabilities, the Theta SC also sports enhanced sharing capabilities including the ability to wirelessly share both movies and photos to a mobile device for posting online. Built-in Wi-Fi also enables remote live view and camera settings adjustment from your smartphone or tablet. The Theta SC also has an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery as well as 8GB of storage for saving imagery.

Unique twin-lens design incorporates lenses on the front and back of the camera to enable full 360° spherical imagery to be recorded with each exposure. Each lens has a fixed aperture of f/2 to benefit working in low-light conditions, and each lens has a fixed focus range of 3.9" to infinity to render nearly all subjects in focus.
Dual 12MP 1/2.3" image sensors provide an interpolated 14.4MP output to produce stills with a 5376 x 2688 equirectangular resolution.
Full HD movie recording is supported at 1080p30 (16 Mb/s) as well as HD 720p15 (6 Mb/s), and clips up to 5 minutes long can be recorded at a time.
Auto, Manual, Shutter Priority, and ISO Priority exposure modes are available for stills shooting, and auto exposure mode is available for video recording.
A sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 1600 is available for all recording modes to benefit working in a variety of lighting conditions.
When shooting stills, shutter speeds ranging from 1/8000 sec. to 1 minute are possible in manual mode. Speeds up to 1/8000 sec. and down to 1/15 sec. are possible in video mode.
Built-in Wi-Fi allows you to connect to a mobile device or tablet to gain a live view image, adjust camera settings, and wirelessly transfer stills and video for instant sharing online. A dedicated Theta+ app is available for editing spherical stills, and a dedicated Theta+V app is available for editing spherical videos.
Spherical imagery can be uploaded to the Theta 360 website and shared to Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr or posted to Google Maps, Google+, and YouTube. The Theta SC employs the Google-supported Open Spherical Camera API for full compatibility with Google services, including the ability to publish your photo spheres on the Google Street View app for others to explore.
A 1/4"-20 tripod mount is incorporated into the bottom of the camera body for increased stability.
Integrated lithium-ion battery offers approximately 260 shots per charge, and it can be charged via the included USB cable.
Internal 8GB memory can store approximately 1600 full-resolution stills or approximately 63 minutes of 1080p video.

    Ricoh 910743 Reviews

Theta SC Spherical Camera (Blue) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a pretty cool camera. This is a pretty cool camera. Fun toy. Great for location scouting. Put the photo in some google goggles and you can look all around. Fun. OK. Here is the thing, and I guess this is pretty common, the app is not so great. So I had to purchase a 3rd party app to download and control the camera....and then the Theta app will work. It is an odd work around, and it sucks that you have to do it....but I guess Ricoh doesn't care much about their consumers after they purchase the camera...oh is still cool

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funky and functional I rejected 360 images for a long time. They seemed too cheesy, too gimmicky, and rather annoying to look at. Especially the tiny planet versions. But in preparation of photographing a large convention with TONS of people in an eclectic mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, I wanted to provide my client with a different look. Hence, I bought this 360 camera. In my initial tests, I think it is pretty fun and does a great job. I look forward to seeing the impact the images will make once delivered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Photosphere Camera Really works with Google Street View App. Good for photos but poor for video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the Best 360° Camera on the market. With the newer reduced price this little Ricoh Theta SC is the best 360° Camera on the market. I bought it primarily for Stills not Video but even the Video quality is fairly acceptable  At $200 less than the Theta V its a no brainer. If you rerally need Video than the V is going to give you higher quality but be warned with the small sensor size its really NOT what I consider 4K Video. Anyway I took this little gem on a 21 Day European Vacation through Italy, France and Spain just recently and got some wonderful images (and video). The iPhone App worked flawlessly, quick and easy connection every time. I was able to establish the WiFi connection, mount the Theta SC on a small Manfrotto Tabletop Tripod and step away about 15-20 feet and get great shots.  The MAC Desktop App is easy to use and interfaces with Photos for the MAC perfectly. If you are into Social Media, posting to Facebook, etc. is seamless and it links to the Theta App to give your friends the Full 360° Experience. Ive had the Overpriced Kodak PIXPRO SP360 4K which was horrible, low quality, terrible interface, and the worst iPhone App you could imagine.  Sold that thing after only a few attempts of capturing anything.  So I am so glad that Ricoh introduced the Theta SC at such an afforable price.  If you want to have some fun with 360° imaging go get yourself the Ricoh Theta SC.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Toy! More of a toy than a professional tool, but so much fun once you figure out how to use the app. Great for travel, but images aren't sharp enough for professional use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 360 doesn't live up to its hype I guess the camera is okay for the money, but it really isn't for me. I don't like the heavy distortion when viewing the photos, and they just aren't very sharp. I also had some issues with the Android software. I tried it for a couple of days, then sent it back. Thanks B&H for your wonderful return policy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love These Knock wood, but I've never had one of these fail. And the 2-pack comes at a great price.
